i was just filling in some holes on my grill with putty and got some putty on the paint around the holes, thinking i could clean it off once it dried, but now its rock solid and it wont come off the paint! is there anyway around this to get it off or do i have to sand the grill and respray it?

try a very fine wet sandpaper and use lots of water.
Don't rub too hard, try to concentrate on the putty area.
You will dull the paint a little but you can bring it back with a decent polish like poorboys ssr 2 with a random orbital machine and a medium pad.
