Hi Guys,

Done a search, didnt find the answer I was after.

I am currently running a mild setup for my motor,

8 pound, thereabouts.

Now I am looking at some highend Boost Controller options, for my newer psycho setup.

I am looking for something really cool, not like a APEXI fc which is like a ECU by my understanding as I have decided either HKS Vcon or Motec, as my funds will dictate which direction ecu choice goes but the boost controller is a difficult choice.

What does the Ozhonda community recommend???

I currently have a Turbosmart T gate Thing- its one of those manual jobs where you wind it ip or down for level of desired boost. looks ghey IMO.

I am looking at:
HKS EBC
Greddy Profec

So what do you reckon guys?

Thanks in advance and please dont spam this thread. I am looking at buying soon and would like your opinions.
Cheers:thumbsup:

Im using profecb2 and it works perfectly. A bit tricking on setting it tho.

What ECU are you planning to use? If Hondata S300 (motec too i think) you only need to buy a solenoid and you can control the boost by the ECU which is pretty neat.

Im running an Apexi AVCR. Really happy with it. Holds boost quite well and user friendly and easy to setup too. Also has the step boost feature where you can have different boost presets for each gear. Good if your car is running high boost and you have traction problems at the 1/4. Looks really nice too, resonably priced too for what you get. Good luck mate

same here.......AVC-R all the way
very accurate controller....holds peak boost very well with only .2-.3 psi spyk.

It has all the features that you would need , as sexc86 metioned

Failing getting one of these controllers , the e-boost 2 is also a good option. The only problem with the e-boost is that you have to be a nasa scientist to work out how to use them at first lol.

AVCR is the way to go, dial in ur gear dependant boost etc.

if u have autronic or motec or efitech ecus, use their small boost control solenoids, as they are be directly programmed from the ecu and have much better feedback on duty cycles etc.

AVCR is a single solenoid ebc

If it you get a ebc, you might as well get a twin solenoid one so it will prevent boost spike.

I used blitz sbc id3, it worked well and held boost great.
Next time around, I'll probably try using eboost2, have heard lots of good things about it.

Cheers for the replies guys,

So in summary, if I can afford the motec, it would be better to use that for boost contol, as the ecu has greater control and can adjust to suit the conditions better during duty cycle.

With the Motec is there anything I can adjust boost in the cabin with or is this a set and forget type of thing?

I know I can get the Motec dash, which I am very keen on as it will add rice and bling to the interior, but what do do when I want to up the boost and take it on the dyno for shootout or down the 1/4?

Thanks again for your replies.

i use profec-b spec 2 as well, i LOVE it, very easy to use, and not to hard to instal, holds boost really well, and its dual stage so can just change between two pre sets with a press of a button, love having ppl spooling up next to me and me just smiling at them as im pressing the button to put it on my high setting :D

Cheers for the replies guys,

I will probably be adding the E-boost 2,

I have checked it on the net and the product can be dash mounted with a special holder and can incorporate a twin shift light feature into the bezel, pretty neat if you ask me,

Right now I have a boost guage, but you have to have mad peripheral vision to see it going, kind of hard when youre trying to concentrate on teh road, so I will be going the E-boost 2 and mounting it nicely where I can see it and just trimming it to suit my dash.

Couple tof things.

1) E boost is the worst thing to read off while driving.

2) someone will pinch it

^^^ Hey Champ, in regards to seeing,

the guage will be mounted and trimmed into a custom dash,

with a small bleeping light will warn of pre-shift and shift max revs,
and,
I have the King of all security systems, and short of taking my rotweiller with me on every trip, on the rare occasion my car is out of my sight, i am back in seconds to check on it.

I am pretty bad with my car, then again its not a daily driver or I wouldnt be spending 7-800 on a lousy boost controller... man thats so much.

Dude,

Thats so right, but unless they have a loaded gun, they arent getting my car, and if they do, QuickTrak and the police will be their new friends.;)

Plus, who would want my car man,

Theyres like sl55's f430's etc that are worth jacking, not my ride,

I am more worried of some retard hitting me on the highway and riding it (and me + passenger) off,

i'll only get 16K for it, Plus human life being priceless,

thats nowhere near its replacement value.

Thems the brakes though.

all im saying is dont use the e-boost as a boost gauge.

But seriously, its just smash ur window, and rip the thing out. they dont care if it wrecks your dash

Oh ok cool,

Youre saying as a boost controller, its good,

as a readout for a boost guage its ghey,

Point taken,

Ill probly have to mount it somewhere tough, I am thinkin a piller nice and low,

or to left of rounded dash bit... mmmm... decisions decisions.

BTW does anyone think 7-800 for a boost controller is excessive???

I seriousdly think it is.

im not sure exactly why amire says not to use it as a boost guage
but i find that driving cars with digital boost guages is abit ghey only cause the numbers move way too quick and are often too small.. where as the normal ones you see the needle move and rise and fall

1 advantage is that you can set a warning on digital ones to beep at you when you hit the preset boost...
but then again you can get digital boost guages that have the needle.. i find thats the best of both worlds

thats just my opinion...

and yes i think $800 is abit much for a boost controller

how much boost are you planning to run?

Yeah, round 2 bar.

And yes, I know, its excessive,

So is my capacity of disposable income,

My mechanic, my trimmer, now me, and I have their number on speed dial LOL

Defi boost gauges (with needle) have warning settings.

I have used both the GFB boost controllers (bleed type) Atomic (single) and Reactor (duel) and they are both fine.
