Car was on low, kept the engine running for a while. Turned it off then turn it back on later and the car woudnt start. OUT of fuel thats why i know it doesnt work.

try pulling your back seat out
then pull the cover off the fuel guage sender in the tank
you will see a 3 pin plug.

disconnect it
then short out the 2 outside pins of the plug (the ones goin back to the dash)
see if the light turns on

if it does the you will need a new sender unit
if thats the case u can go to ur local wreackers grab one for no more den 35 bucks

cool thanks for that,

you should try Grey-one test, but dont bridge it for to long as if you get the gauge sender wire you could blow the fuel guage with a short to ground.

i try it but nothing turn on,
after shorting it, you turn on the power right, thats what i did and nothing happened.

Maybe your bulb has just blown....
My top bulb, which lights up the needles blew

I then swapped it with another bulb and that blew too!! ><
Abit weird.... but yea

You could just have a blown bulb...

I have the same problem too. I removed my instrument cluster and checked all the bulbs. They all worked fine. i even changed the low fuel light bulb with another one that i knew was working and it still didnt' light up.

But, i still have to try that fuel tank sender trick...oh, this is on an EK4.

easy, inside the dash cluster is screws along the top removed them removes a frame around the dash cluster

after taking frame out you can clearly see screws in front of you that allows you to remove the dash cluster

a question guys, when you turn your key twice (right before ignition) and all lights go on, should low fuel light go on (ie. testing if bulb is working) ?

will it look like normal when you put it back on? i heard that it can look like it has been tampered with after its been removed once. what about the needles? will they come off with the dash cluster too?

p.s. sorry for hijacking ya thread

You will go know where near the needle if your just replacing the bulb, it will look normal if you take it out and put it in properly.

nah it looks fine, the bulb is removed from the back of the dash cluster (like how you remove a screw), the clear plastic on the front covering the dash cluster stays on so thus your not even in touching the needles. ive removed mine several times and the dash cluster slides back in perfectly, as long as you line the screws up.

under your back seat, rip cushion off you'll see a wire going down a hole thats where it is

I installed a EK4 cluster into my fren's EK1 CXi some mths ago and the fuel light definately doesn't work on his car.

He tried running the car till it's on fumes with 580-630Km on the speedo from a full fill so obviously the sender unit doesn't have a low fuel output in his early build cxi.

i don't think cxi have a fuel light. sorta like the breeze eg's, no fuel warning light.

gli and above should.

yes, EM1 definately have them as i asked my friend who has an EM1 if we he had one. and his works =)
