hi im planning to put in

JBL 6" 210w splits (GTO607C) ($188)

sony 4channel 600w amp ($198)

kicker 12' ex sub (free friend gave it to me :D)

for the split i was planning to put in MTX THS602 but the guy recomend me the JBL, the MTX is only $20 cheaper so i guess ill get the JBL. What do you guys think of this upgrade? Can you recommend me any better split for around the same price and still <$220?? im on limited budget here.

all prices are from strathfield sydney and the guy told me installation will be around $200 so in total i would spend $600-$700 on this upgrade can anyone also suggest a cheaper place in sydney for installations?

or is it best for me to go all jaycar component and jaycar amp?

sorry im really an audio noob, any comments will be helpful i just want a good sound quality sound system with a decent price, i dont think the JBL is better than the jaycar component but the price of the jaycar component is quite deceptive because usually what you pay is what you get

jaycar actually has a good reputation for being good for the price so dont worry about them being absolute crap. that said, if u can afford more then there are other options out there.

sony has a very poor reputation and u would be better of avoiding them. as for the splits, i think the bottom of the range hertz and alpine might be around the $200 so prob worth having a look at them as well :)

jaycar amp is good, heaps better than sony, just make sure when u buy an amp, it meets da perfect match rms of the splits not da watts, coz if it doesn't than ur speakers wont be running full potential.

whats the rms? sorry im a newb. although the focal 130 A1 is very very tempting +$50 and i get a good brand but is this focal brand worth the money, i mean if its ust slightly better than a jaycar component that i better get the jay car one, im trying to keep it around $500$600 in total

focal is very good brand and definately worth a look as well. the a1 series is their bottom of the range but still a good product. however, in the first post u mention u are after 6 inch splits whereas the 130 a1 is a 5 inch. the product u would prob have to get is the 165 a1 which retails at around $260 :) here (http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/pictures/access.htm) is all the info u should need about the focals.

also, keep in mind rms rating is not a way to accurately guage the performance or quality of a speaker. try and get a listen to them and decide which one u like best :)

as a side note i would avoid strathfield for installations, i have had multiple bad experiences with them in the past...

rms is the handling of speaker and peak is watts u normally find em behind the speakers..

what if the rms of the amp is higher than the rms of the speakers?

its normal to use an amp with a higher power rating than the speakers, in fact its usually better to ensure u are providing enough clean power to them. u jus have set the gains on the amp so as to not over-power the speakers :)
