i am looking at getting a custom cat back system soon for my ek1. i kinda know what sound i want, do i just bring in a clip of it for them to check out so that they can match it? or should they have plenty of clips to listen to?

depends who u bring it too, but bring them a clip to listen to anyway,
might be a certain muffler that makes that sound...

You purchase exhausts to improve the response/performance of your car man, not for the sound,
If you walk into any muffler store and play them the sound that you're after, theyre gonna look at you like you're a retard - unless theyre retarded themselves.

u guys are funny, some ppl get exhaust for sound as well
if ur just after sound and nothing to do with performance, just buy a muffler
magnaflow mufflers put out a good sound...

I am curious about how you have come to that conclusion. Is it from personal experience? If so, then you clearly havent got the right exhaust on your car. If you put the right components together (ie headers, cat, muffler and most importantly resonator) then there is no reason that it cant sound good.

I think what aimre was referring to was jst a simple muffler, for sound.
If someone was to apply the right headers, intake and exhaust, it would definitely sound a lot better.

From listening to cars on the road.

Im pretty sure my car sound better than 95% of the people on here.

So, just to be clear, your saying that because of your anecdotal evidence that all civics sound terrible, but your car (which I am assuming is a civic due to your profile) sounds great.

Hmmm, interesting . . . . :zip:

the exahust will sounds diff from inside the car even if u have the windows down, stand outside and listen to it. it might sound exactly like all the other civics with exhausts.

i got a hitech muffler stainless steel catback on my ek1 and it isnt too bad. not loud like a fart cannon but not too soft like a twin loop.

You have missed the point completly. It is not the fact that your exhaust sounds good - infact I am sure it does. The point is you said:

Its a civic, its gonna sound like a fart

. . . implying that there is no way to build a nice sounding exhaust for a civic. Furthermore, you are contradicting yourself when you say:

Im pretty sure my car sound better than 95% of the people on here

as:

Its a civic, its gonna sound like a fart

My point is pretty clear. It is possible to build a nice sounding exhaust for a civic as long as you dont skimp on parts and do it the right way.

Like one of these? Get the shop to copy it. (Proportionally smaller for the civic of course)

Its from heaps of cars i've heard. Even with twin loops, they still fart

As I have said previously, if you put the right components together there is no reason that they should sound that way. The key (at least as far as I am concerned) is a good resinator. In the instance of a twin loop you are only referring to the muffler which is just going to change the pitch of the exhaust sound but not the 'drone' sound.
