Hi there,

Whenever I start the car cold, I hear a high pitched screech as I turn the key. It ceases as soon as the engine starts.

What could be the problem and how to fix this? Is it safe to drive the car?

Thanks for your responses.

The timing belt has recently been replaced last month.

it's got a custom cold air intake to front bar.

vaugest question plus vaugest answers ever. We need a audio clip of ur car starting up.

Is it a whistle or a SCREECH noise ?
Could be alternator/power steering/ air conditioning belt too tight / too loose.
Could be a vaccuum leak Could be low on oil / wrong oil viscosity ( engine is noisy when heating up )

Thanks Ben, SCREECH is the right word. Post edited. I'll upload the audio clip shortly...

I think the starter had worn or broken teeths

It's the starter motor solenoid not disengaging after it starts the motor. Happens to our 94 accord.
Crank-crank-vroom/SCREEECH-vroom. That's what is like on our car.

Be careful , there is 2 "screech" noises. One is the starter as mentioned above but also one of the belts slipping.
IS the noise the same as when you hold the key too long when starting ? ( starter grinding onto flywheel as mentioned)

^^ Yeah, if it is the starter motor, it only happens during startup, NEVER at anytime else as well.
