at this stage i think it may grow on me.

if i was to try this diy, i would go out and try to find a second hand grill from the wreckers just incase something goes wrong or it does nto turn out the way you thought it would.

in regards to items you will need

- sand paper to sand down the surface of the grill
- prepsol wash to wash and clean the surface of the grill
- primer
- matt black paint
- possible clear coat if you can find a matt finish clear coat as most clear coats will make the paint glossy

You can get the same effect using Carbon Fiber Vinyl wrap - I did mine but it looked better leaving part of the grill shiny so I removed the vinyl from the middle section. It gives a shinier finish though so it wont look matt.

This is how it looks if you wrap it in carbon fiber vinyl (its an 06/07 Grill obviously, but it would look similar on 03-05)

Personally, I think it looks as if it's just been given an undercoat, and is waiting for a paint job...

Hi there,
I like the carbon fibre wrap! Where can I get this product and how do you actually apply it to tapered and curved surfaces like the grille centre bar etc? Is it expensive to buy?

I assume it can be easily removed if you tire of it or it gets chipped etc?

Thanks heaps,

^ You can get it on eBay, search for "Carbon Fiber Vinyl". There are also some online stores - search google. Its not expensive at all since its only vinyl plastic, about $10 or so.

You can heat it up to get it to stretch around curves, and it can be easily removed, just peel it off, and use some metho or detergent if the glue stays behind on the grill.

No offense but I think it looks crap. Just out of place and the finish looks like it was pulled straight off a burnt vehicle.

looks good
but need it to maintain its black and not turn white/grey under sunlight

a clear coat would probably set it off nicely sitting next to those head lights
