Hey guys,
Got a EJ8 with a b16a engine conversion. With i/h/e;ecu;cams with cam gears aftermarket upgrades.
Thinking of up-grading=morepower.
Which has more value for money?
And which will be pulling more power in an EJ8 chassis?
or rebuild the b16, with high comp pistons?
so b20/vtec swap vs. k20a swap vs rebuild b16a?
thanks

How much money you have to spend?

well
i check out a b20 swap with my b16 in return is about 5k...
so looking not to spend more than 6.5k
Was looking more at a b20 though, not recommended?

Well you've already got a worked B16, why not just keep the head from that and put it on a B20 bottom?
B20's are very fun to drive :D
I imagine the cost spent on a K20 would be way over budget.

your best bet is probably a b20 setup with the budget. Send us pm if you're ready to rock, i can organise a DynoDave Built B20 and swap it in for you.
Klaymore above is running one of Dave's motors.
If you're wanting going K the budget needs to be around the 12k mark.

k20 is out of your budget. go b20vtec still got decent power. There is one for sale in the for sale section you should check it out. I think it was tuned by dynodave. I think they wanted $5000. And you could probably get a good price for your current setup

As Klayemore has already said you have a B16a head with mods so you might as well just swap the short block for a B20b

K20 for sure! more power to start with, and alot more modding petential for future power gains :p

i don think so i had a eg5 with b18c and i didnt need engineer jst blue slip?

it depends on the percentage increase in power whether you will need an engineered cert....
as for me...I was tossing up with the same thing before...
with your budget i'd say b20....
but with the parts that I wanted for the b20 set up I was gonna do it was only slightly cheaper than the k24/k20 set up lol...
but anyway...Im just re-coning my motor instead
I also think b16a turbo is a good idea for that price range

B20 gen 2 crx,u need an engineers cert or you will not be able to get a blue slip for the conversion(thats how it works in NSW anyway).
U increase your engine displacement more than 15% over original,it needs to be engineered.
D16A8 to B18C is under 15% displacement increase so u dont need engineer cert.

do the K20a conversion as their is alot of potential for these motors. but do the b20 because your running on a budget!

a b20 setup up would be best for your budget but turboing should be another option you should consider.

So since i have a worked b16 head. I can simply exchange the b20 bottom?
How about transmission, drive shafts etc?
b16's will fit b20's?
Whats the b20 with b16 head Compression ratio?

Use your B16 gearbox. I have a B16 box from a DA Teg and works great. And driveshafts should be OK?

any B serise drive shaft should be okay..
I think you should save your money and get a house.
Or invest it in something financially gaining.

Hi guys,
Firstly i know this is a very old thread but im hoping that a few of you still can help out.
I now own klays old b20 vtec crx. built by dyno Dave.
Its still running good but for what it is seems down on power and desperately needing driveshafts.
Its been on the dyno and only.made.137.7hp.
I was told dyno Dave did all the tuning and it was done with chrome, but i also hear he is no.longer around the scene?
I've been told it was only ever tuned to.run the engine in and never touched after.
The 2 main question i ask is:
What driveshafts am i chasing for the b20 in a 88 ef7 crx?
And where can i get it tuned. i live 3hrs north of brisbane but will travel.
Or what do i need todo it myself (or is this not advisable) as it is free to download but uses a Rom or emulator. Im more wondering how to you write it to the chip in the ecu,
Looking foward to hearing back and getting this baby back on the street.

^^^^^I think this should have been made into a new THREAD on its own.
inbeforethemodsmovesthispost :)
but to answer your Driveshaft questions.... i believe you will need DA9 integra intermediate shaft and d/shafts to fit - others can confirm this.
Axles (S1 intermediate shaft) Integra '90-'91, (non-ABS)
OR get a custom made Billet D/shafts ftw!

For the tuning side, unless you know what you are doing and have access to a dyno & 4 gas analyser, I would leave it to a professional. You wouldn't want to lean out your motor and have it explode on you now would you. Have a talk to Adrian from Toda, he heads up to Brisbane from time to time for group tunes that have been booked by customers up that way. Otherwise try 999 Automotive (http://www.999automotive.com.au/)
