Hey,

looking to purchase a runaround.

Which one of the three cars above would you recommend and why?

For argument sake, lets assume the EG vti is a 95, EG si is a 94, and EK cxi is a 97. All will have around 200000km.

Thanks in advance.

well out of those 3 IMO i would choose the EG VTI as a run around car you got the option of sunroof and a sohc vtec engine just a few extras to make your run around car a little better ;)

how much are you paying for each?
if you decide to go conversion, id go with the si, easier to sell to cuz it already has rear disc brakes and people want it to mod, lighter without sunroof.

...not that much difference... vti 1025kg to si 1016kg

think they stopped producing the si in 93... so they will be a bit older.

according to the carsales website. http://www.carsales.com.au/car-research/details.aspx?__Ns=pCar_YearMade_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCa r_Make_String%7C0%7C%7CpCar_Model_String%7C0&__Nne=20&R=cs19931122.16:00:24&__No=40&__N=281&__Dx=mode%20matchany&trecs=108&__sid=11411F238748&__Ntk=CarAll&silo=1005&keywords=civic&Cr=13&__D=civic&seot=20&__Ntt=civic&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial

the vti weighs 1051kg, dats pretty much the weight of the civic cxi.
if after only runaround car, yeh id go with vti for sure.
if u wanna mod i reckon the ek, since its newer. eg's are getting old.

Not sure that he wants to mod.. I think his just after a daily.
If thats the case you'd go for the newer EK, having said that a 97 model car with 200k and an older 95 with 200k, could be seen as having been "used" more than the older, but there are too many factors.. ie servicing, price, previous owners etc.

.. go the EK hehe newer, if its JUST for a daily.. no mods.

the civic cxi is a no go, its too damn slow, your better off with the VTI as people now preffer in this day to get a already VTEC'd engine instead of a turtle. goodluck with it ! =)

EG Si > EG VTi

EG Si for me

any reason in particular?

So far, I'm leaning towards the EG vti. Would be nice to have a little bubble vtecing around town..haha

The sunroof is also pretty appealing to me.

you also have to think about the air bag in the vti. if you are gonna want to change to an aftermarket steering wheel, this will be illegal because you cant go from air bag to non air bag. though that hasnt stopped people from doin it, just somethin you should take into consideration

I won't be doing any engine conversions to it..haha

Just want it as a nice daily with a bit of punch.

What are the main differences between the EG Si and the EG Vti's besides the different engines and sunroof?

Thanks

Engine and sunroof are pretty much the only main difference between the two.. Both will have power windows & disc brakes all round.
I guess u have the option of airbags in the later model vti's.

power diff between a cxi and vti/si isnt that much diff man..
i've seen cxi's munch vti's and si's before, its all the driver, thats not really the point tho but the fact is their all slow and not suppose to be fast;) its suppose to be a runaround car, not a track car.

to me their all nuggets and i would go for the EK, mainly because it is a newer car and has more room then an eg.

but the ek cxi dont come with a sunroof, nor does it have disk brakes all round, nor does it it have vtechhh y0! haha

edit: nor do they have power windows or power mirrors. I like my luxury options. haha

eg's aren't as comfortable as ek's imo..
the interior is small and not as roomy and new looking as the ek is.

disk brakes aren't very difficult to source from wreckers and installation can be easily done at any mechanic.

sacrificing a sunroof and 'vtec' for a car which is much newer and comfortable to drive is a sacrifice which i am willing to take.

there are very few eg's on the market nowadays which are in mint condition.

Hey mate, Whatever you do, make sure its an EG Hatch and manual, apart from the enigne it is the lightest of all hatches. but as for engine drop in a b16a or b18c "like i have in mine" with the b18c it will eat all standard 5.0L holdens and fords and make them cry, plus i can help you with all the swap info if u need. That is if you decide to do the swap. EG-VTI = 96KW @6600, EG-Si = 96KW @ 6800

The interior doesnt have to be roomy for me. I'm not particularly a big fella nor will I be carrying many passengers around in it either.

Also, I would prefer not to have to have to go through the hassle of 'sourcing disc brakes from wreckers and getting them installed'. I like cars in it's original state, just the way Honda has built it.

Sunroofs and other luxuries would be awesome to have in a daily driver. Besides, the EK isnt 'much newer'. Although the shape of EK's are slightly more contemporary in comparison to EG's, however some people may still consider EG's to have a classic shape. Each to there own obviously. Also, with the same amount of money, the choices may be limited to a very good condition EG vti, or a poor condition EK cxi. In which case, it would be a choice between an 'older car' which looks new, or a 'newer car' that looks old.

I just want a neat little daily that can give me a buzz every now and then..haha

seems to me you have already made ur mind up man? now that people have responded, this should make up your decision. as you said above "each to their own" and that is exactly what you should do. if you like the way they came from the honda show room, then keep it the way you want it. it all depends on whether you like the "classic" or "new" car

I sort of had an idea on which one I would prefer. But just thought I would get a few other opinions on what they would recommend and reasons for it.

If its purely to get you from a-b, forget the rest, and jst get the cheapest car u can find!!
All this commotion about weight and power isnt gonna mean anything as you're only usig it as a daily on public roads.

If ur planning on modding ur daily, then thats a diff story all together.
