View Full Version : 4x150wrms Amp?
Hi,
Looking for a decent Amp that can power my front DA m6 splits (120wrms) and also power my sub (450wrms MTX).
At the moment I got a shitty mtx 4x50 (150wrms bridged) powering both.
Obviously the speakers are good so nothing top of the line, but something decent for SQ and SPL (no competitions or anything).
I was thinking the Alpine PDX 4.150?
Head Unit is a Alpine 9831 and I'll be sound deadening the car with Dynomat once I get time.

What's your budget?
How about an audison LRx3.1k?:D
(2 x 160 watts + 1 x 650 watts @ 4 ohm)

audison sxr3 is a dedicated sub/split amp and would work well for your purpose (and is also substantially cheaper than the pdx). however, ideally you have a monobloc amp for the and a seperate amp for the splits and, given you are considering the pdx, you should be able to afford to do this.
but if u are looking to upgrade ur system later or something a 4 (or 3 channel) amp will work fine in the meantime, it just wont be providing the clean power to the sub that a mono will.
edit: will also just add dont let the rms ratings of the amp be the sole reason u choose it. many high quality amps may have slightly lower ratings on paper but that does not make them inferior to cheaper products with higher figures, use the ratings as a guide :)
also, jus thought ide throw in im currently using a 9831 and a pdx 4150 with good results :)

Thanks Vinny.
Final build of the system will be a IDMax and 1000wrms Monoblock. Right now, I want an Amp that will run the splits and sub to full potential. I think this with the sound deadening will make an awesome system (sounds good as is) and might hold me out.
I don't want to spend too much. Maybe $500 (say, $600 retail) max?
How much is the Audison SXR3?
Whilst I too suggest you look at both the Audison LRx3.1k and the SRx3 you might find that at $1440 and $700 respectively (dealers will do a better price of course) it might be a little outside your budget.
If this is the case then why not have a look at the DLS CA31? We've done plenty of cars with them and while not the most powerful amplifier in the world, they do offer good clean power at a respectable price (they retail for $549 and again; dealers will do better). For more information check the DLS website (http://www.dls.se). :D
CA31 isn't powerful enough at only 2x65wrms + 1x170wrms.
PDX4150 vs the SRx3 - they are roughly the same price. Which one would be best for my situation? Should I be able to get either of them for under $500 retail?
FYI, after I get my IDMAx and Monoblock; this Amp will be used to directly power all 4 splits (if I have rears) or will be bridged into each front split.
Thanks

for a start i would recommend that when u get the idmax and monu u use this amp u to power the fronts only. the rear speakers are not as important therefore u should spend less money and power on them :) this is where a 4 channel will have an advantage over a 3 channel as it can be bridged in the manner or used for an active setup and ive seen many people using the 4150 for their front stage amp.
secondly, back to what i said before, sometimes the ratings on paper can be misleading and u may be surprised to find just how capable that amp is.
thirdly, where are u gettin a brand new pdx 4150 for around $500 from coz last time i checked the rrp is $900...
lastly just another coincidence, im also using an image dynamics sub atm (idq12) :p
