Hey, I know it may be a stupid question... But to convert a may 89 LS integra from auto to manual... How serious is it, and how much money do you reckon it would cost?

And also this forum kicks ass, I only just started reading the threads on it... Its good to be a member haha

Sell your car, and go buy a manual one instead.
Most probably be cheaper and with less troubles then to do the conversion.

unfortunately for you he is correct. Just sell your car and get a manual. you have to buy gear box, new clutch, new fluids, labor, etc. Also i think the B18A have slightly different cams and lower redline. So all in all your looking at atleast $1000.

yes
it would be easier
just to give a quick run down on what you'll need though
pedals
gearbox
clutch and flywheel
mounts and mount brackets
shifter assembly and linkages
ecu
harness
clutch slave and master with lines
cluster

yeah, i was thinking '1k, what the?'
its a lot of stuff to do a manual conversion, and the labour's a tad bit pricey too. my mate spent 10k doing his manual conversion, labour took longer because vg30s arent meant to be in pintaras.
3k should be about right tho if you can source the parts.

Woah lots of replies... Yeah I might wait till after the HSC and just sell it off and get a manual... Another question... Would it be better to buy another LS straight up or is it worth it to save up a bit and get a GSi?

wot shape do you like better? They basically have the same engine. LS (da9) has a B18a which produces 96-103Kw where a GSI(DC4) has a B18B that produces 107Kw. It produces a bit more power due to its revised intake manifold and higher compression

Ahh ok, I really dont know then. Ill probably just get another LS, I got my LS for 2500 and all the GSi's I find are like 6000+ :S

i'd go for gsi, parts seems to be easier to find

IMOA

it depends how much u love ure car now, if u have already put some $$$ into the body and other goodies then its not worth the sale, u may not get the $$$ u have put into the car back.- then do the conversion.

everyone says sell and run, but whats ure gut say.?

i love my ride so i am doing the conversion!

Well I know ive put around 1.2g into it and that was just fixing it up to a good standard and its only on 190,000k's... All the others I find seem to be around 250+... If I can find a place in Sydney that can convert it for 1.5g ill do it. Its my first car and I love it hahahah... What else can I say.

But do you guys reckon a converted auto to manual would be worse than a stock manual?

IZY-10
29-08-2007, 04:58 PM
Why dont you just go the whole B16a conversion then for a extra $1k or so extra.

LaZaZaL89
29-08-2007, 08:08 PM
if I can afford to... I will =). I might be doing labouring for 18months before uni, so I might be able to spend a bitta cash...
But...
Few more Q's
1.Where would I find a b16a and wouldnt a b18c be better?
2. do they cost heaps more?
3. If I convert to manual, would I need to get a new instrument panel?

(Sorry for the heaps n00b questions)

IZY-10
29-08-2007, 11:23 PM
yes a b18c would be better but you are looking at $3.5-4 for a half cut. But this will have everything you need. Instrument cluster, manual gearbox, motor..... So if you like your car keep it save up money and wait until you can afford to do it all at once. This way your car will then be a manual and it will have more power

alright sweet, but would it cost heaps to get it engineered and put in? Dont wanna run the risk of it being defected.

My mate from these forums just recently (3 weeks ago?) did a DA Integra Auto to Manual swap!

I don't know his nickname cause he never tells me or I always forget but hit up "Yamikaze" from these forums and I'm sure he'll be able to point you in the right direction.

You have to double check with your RTA! But in Melbourne they allow you up to 15% increase in displacement however you are not increasing displacement simply just swapping a motor
