there's a seal, where your bonnet sits at the back, take it off, and add 2 washers, or maybe even one, don't raise it too much, because then it get noticeable
just do it enough.

what a stupid thread.
unless your temp gauge is significantly higher than normal, and is in/near the red bit, your car is not overheating and you dont need to worry.
stop trying to fix something that isnt broken.

the motor IS NOT overheating.
it's just creating alot of heat under the bonnet.

alot of ppl add washers without changing to longer bolts, hence the bonnet isnt really secured in place. wat will happen during a head-on collision? not pretty.
even with the help of longer bolts, i personnaly dont think its that save too, tats if u raise it up too much. mayb not to the extreme, then its ok.

in order to operate efficiently your engine needs to be hot. cooling it too much will make it less efficient, and result in unburnt fuel leaving your tailpipe, or at least being burnt in your catalytic converer instead of the combustion chamber.

not, making the engine run cooler.

misteR_bilzz
29-08-2007, 02:26 PM
'overheating' as stated by her in the original post isnt her issue, its the fact that there is excessive heat in her engine bay (car still operates at a normal temp)... the engine has already made the heat and its just sitting there getting other things hot like her sri and bonnet.
as said before just go with the washers on the bonnet and try to get some heat wrapping done.
problem solved!

this is the only law i can find about bonnets
Bonnet securing devices
(1) A motor vehicle with a moveable body panel forward of the windscreen that covers an engine or luggage storage or battery compartment, must have a device to secure the panel.
(2) However, if the panel opens from the front in a way that partly or completely obstructs the driver’s forward view through the windscreen, the panel must have primary and secondary devices to secure the panel.

the person is trying to get of excess heat in the engine bay, so it's cooler underneath there.
to make it more efficient, then having heat trapped inside, the bonnet.
that's all the owner wants to do is remove that excess heat, that it has underneath the bonnet.
this will benefit the owner of THAT car, as they're motor does creat excess heat.

yeah there is probably (i say probably, not definately) some thing right at the start or end that says anything you do that changes the condition of the car from when it came out of the factory is not approved.

um just to divert.... my coolant temps are stable but my underhood temps are significantly lower simply from heat wrapping my extractors all the way to the collector...
and yes i have a tool to measure high temps and yeah my $40 no brand low temp thermostat works :D
don't raise the bonnet, ****ing dangerous idea. i know someone who had a front collision with that... the edgey bit of the bonnet near the hinges went straight though the windscreen. any faster of an impact and both driver and passenger are dead... i don't neg rep but only coz i've seen what can happen i would neg rep each one of you that suggested it if i could be ****ed

yeah but i've also seen a dc2 with a bonnet like so, with 1-2 washers on the bonnet, not alot, been in a front end, and it ended up fine as well.

yes, most cars get that hot. yours is nothing special. if your paint is fading, its because your paint is crap. my da9 is 15 years old and the bonnet is fine. it gets hot too.
you need suggestions for a spray painter, not cooling.

Bao u have a Turbo yeah? Have you installed it yet?
Is the Turbo Radiator large enough and gather enough air from the front?
If the bonnet has lost alot of clearcoat, then it may feel hotter as your hand is closer to the metal.
Do you still have the original heatshield material under the bonnet?
That would effect bonnet temps significantly.
I wouldnt lift the bonnet, its dangerous and water can get into the engine bay when it rains.
