Hye a mate of mine got a new civic, the facelift model...

he said apparently cos old hondas were "performance" tuned/built in the first place (egs and ek civics) so that i/h/e mods dont really do THAT much to improve overall performance...

he went futher to say that teh D17A [acronym:188f5fa7ab="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:188f5fa7ab] [acronym:188f5fa7ab="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:188f5fa7ab] in his car was very sedately tuned, mainly for honda to be able to brand it as a LEV. His main point though, was that I/h/e for his car gives him comparatively much more gains compared to the same mods doen to ek/eg [acronym:188f5fa7ab="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:188f5fa7ab] [acronym:188f5fa7ab="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:188f5fa7ab] or [acronym:188f5fa7ab="Double Overhead Cam"]DOHC[/acronym:188f5fa7ab] VTECS...

anyone like to comment? i reckon he is wrong personally....

i Know... 30% would give him at least 125kws at the fly... stock is like 98 or something... hahhaha he cant afford dynos... he'll run me though

they are defaintly less performance orientated, and much more mummy's car. Infact, i got one for my mum, lol. She has an auto thouugh, and its gutless. The tranny is hopeless, always in the wrong gearm and seems alot slower then my d16. Alas it is also alot quiteier and seems a little more restrictive int he intake/exhaust regions. You will gain some power buy tuning thee parts properly, but i doubt anything more then the d's usual power gains. maybe around the ~15% mark, where the old D's would be ~10%.

30% = bring on the rofl-copter. I think your mate has been doing too much mag-racing when he bought the tuner parts :D 10% sure, 15% maybe... 30% in his dreams.

The current Civic is an ugly, low-performance P.O.S. A VTiR will respond to the same extent if not better to the same mods. Send him to www.clubsi.com ... they'll laugh at him for being [acronym:d9c00865fa="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:d9c00865fa] and have huge experience with the B16A powered Si as well.

Civic's were built as economy-based cars.
Honda have their performance-based cars like S2000, NSX, Integra.

Just rub it in now why don't you!! :P

Man it was a sad day when Honda decided to market the EK4 to look virtually identical to the Cxi..........

'73: Civic 1200RS
I'm ignoring the '80 Civic S, it was a superficial look instead of performance.
'84: Civic Si (ZC)
'89 Civic EF9 SiR/SiR II (B16A)
'89 Civic EE9 VT (B16A)
I won't even start on the [acronym:9188aae5de="Double Overhead Cam"]DOHC[/acronym:9188aae5de] non-[acronym:9188aae5de="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:9188aae5de] motors that came in the EE/EF series - but I will deliberately ignore the ED varients of the 4th gen ;)
'92 Civic EG6 SiR/ SiR II (B16A)
EK4 VTiR is actually a slightly detuned [acronym:9188aae5de="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:9188aae5de] SiR, 160bhp vs the [acronym:9188aae5de="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:9188aae5de] 170ps
EK9 CTR... 'nuff said ;)

I think you mean SOME Civics were built as economy based cars. :D
