Honda Accord 90' f22b auto.

1 - oil light goes on
2 - loss of power
3 - tacho goes to zero and i just coast it to the side of the road.

When i try to start, it sounds like the starter turns the motor, but its a continuous whine, doesn't sound like a normal cranking noise.

I towed it home, checked the whole dizzy, its all fine, starter is fine.
fuel rail has fuel.

any ideas?

EDIT: there is no loss of oil.

Check the Timing Belt. It may broken

i had the same problem.. i snapped my cam in half.. open up the dizzy and crank the engine.. see if it spins.

highly unlikely, but i checked the cam, it spins.

visual check via oil topup hole

pretty much, i think mechanically its fine, some peripheral that the car needs to run?

oh ok.. check if ur getting spark.. once i had a problem i didnt bolt on the ground from the ecu properly.. so it drove untill it came loose and it shut off..

all obvious things are checked, so any ideas?

emsad

just short the diagnostic and have a look at the diagnostic code.. i cant think of anything else

OMG.JAI xD

check the timing of the car.
check if youre running the right spark plugs.
check ignition coil if its failing.
check for short cicuits.
check that maybe the motors life is just finished :/.

it shuld be something mechanical if the engine light goes on while driving.

i could add a bit more diagnostic things bt not realli enuf info or not there to see it myself so yeh.
best i can do :/

goodluck

Sorry Bludger, but maybe you need to put some more pics in the HOT CHICK thread ?

Like what emsad said, check if you have any CEL codes stored.

Stop talking right now!

Grab the codes and see what it says; I assume you know how to do that?

Ur Alternator? dying out?

I will have a go at checking the code when i get some time.

mayb check the starter motorsolenoid and transmission

Ur Alternator? dying out?

Agreed. Check your battery voltage and see if it's dead, if so then most likely your alternator OR battery has moved on in life.

still trying to find out what code 15 means

If code 15 is 'ignition output signal' then I bet you have no spark? For what it's worth I think you are not unlikely to have a dead igniter. Igniter is a small plastic box that lives inside the distributor, easy to fix, cost $200 or so from memory (mine failed twice, last time a year or so ago).

Igniters can fail if you have poor HT leads, so check your lead resistance if you fit a new igniter, it would be a pain to have the new one fail a few months down the track like mine did!

Alternator and/or ICM; Probably ICM (check your alternator voltage of course, but I'd say ICM)

I have a '93 F22B auto, and when my alternator was dying, the motor would fail completely here and then; When driving to the place where the alternator was replaced, the tacho -- then speedo -- then fuel -- then oil -- then temp gauges dropped to the bottom (!) and "CHECK ENGINE" came on.

I thought the new alternator had solved it until on the Eastern at 8:15 inbound... Tacho drops to zero, car coasts.

One ignition control module later, problem solved.
HINT; Remove the airbox when you're replacing the ICM (which is under the dizzy cover and rotor), it makes it shitloads easier.

from what you've said.. sounds like to me the motor is cooked.. oil light came on.. you loss oil pressure and now when you crank its whines.. sounds like you've got no compression.. but then again.. tow it to a workshop and see what they say.. get compression test.. if it actually kicking (or cranking) and more off free spinning.. then no comp..

I misread your initial post. I thought you got it started again. :o
Oh well. (I'd go with AznSicko's prognosis myself if you get a continuous whine)

turned out to be a snapped timing belt

lol

car is sold

not worth fixing

How much do you reckon you lost by selling it man?

I can't remember what I ate last night, let alone trying to remember 5 years ago.

Does it really matter, bumping up such an old pointless fail thread I started?
