hi. i just got a quote from hondata dealer for my 98 EK1(D16y4).
$935 for S100 with new hondata replacement computer (plug and play).

but i have seen some posts in US website. they said we just have to change the chips on the factory ECU(cost about US$250) plus dyno tune and it can do the job.

has anyone got experience with that stuff before? what do you think? i am confusing.

Since your car is a OBd2 and you want hondata S100 they'll have to replace the whole unit with S100 ready. $935 sounds about right. Plus tuning will cost anywhere $550-$660.

Taken from www.hondata.com.au

s100 none plug and play $285 (upgrade clients own obd1 ECU)

s100 plug and play for obd2 cars $935 (full ECU standalone replacement)

Sounds like what you have been quoted is correct, ignore the US forums they have no idea what’s going on.

I got the same car and was wondering If you bought a 92-95 obd1 ECU off ebay and provided them with that will you save $$$?
Would it only be $285 then?

If you provide your own ECU I’m certain there is a $150 install charge, the guys aren’t going to install something for free. Then you also need a conversion harness for obd2 to obd1 which is at least $250, then you still have no warranty. When you add up all the costs of trying to source things on cheap bay its much better to buy a new plug and play unit with warranty from Hondata and let the pros do the job.
