heres the situation

fill up full tank. drive 350kms, and the car runs out of fuel.. how do i know this ? car starts struggling and jerking on bumps and uphill's, needle on petrol gauge doesnt go all the way down, and fuel light does not come on

so i fill up a full tank, and the bowser reads 30Litres (EK fuel tank capacity is 45litres)
this hasnt just happened once, its been the same on 3 tanks of fuel
car is running a wallbro fuel pump.

from what ive been told, the stock fuel pump has a longer "sock" that sits in the petrol tank, than the wallbro's shorter sock.. hence, it does not pick up the petrol on the bottom of the tank..

true or false. any ideas ? sharing is caring lol

the conection between the bottom of the pump and the pick up could be loose. Then when you fuel level goes below the bottom of the pump it is sucking air instead of fuel./

Is there anyway to lower the pickup on a walbro, so it sits as low as posible in the tank. If its not picking up the last 15lt, thats a bit of a concern.
Maby by adding a short section of fuel resistant tubing between the bottom of the pump, and the pickup somhow?

Has it always done this since you installed it, or has the issue only recently popped up of its own accord? If so id agree with creativepunka, maby the connection has come loose and is allowing the pump to suck from a higher up point in the tank????

Wouldnt hurt to pull it out and check the socks still attached on the end just incase. Sounds like the pump is simply not picking up from the bottom of the tank for some reason???

i think so aswell.. thats what i have stated in the intial post, but was just after any other reasons or problems that could cause the problem

just pull out the pump and sender assembly and have a look. It needs to be removed regardless and then you will find the fault.

replacement pumps use the OEM sock/filter (for the EG/EK/DC anyways...) so it shouldnt be the issue.
Is the fuel sender unit hooked up correctly /loose ? Checked the fuel pressure regulator ?

When i first installed the walboro pump I used the supplied filter, I found that the car would suffer from fuel starvation once the tank got below 1/2 way.

You're not supposed to re-use the old filter, but it worked a charm in the case of my car. the extra few CM in length made all the difference.

the lengths should always be the same, the shorter bags mean that ur not getting the right "install kit".

I've also seen some walbros installed incorrectly where the bag that came with the pump as not correct and hence pointed the wrong way, exact same symptoms as it doesnt get fuel even if the tank was 1/4 full

no problem here with my walbro
pull it out and check that the sock hasnt fallen off all together
