Hi guys,

I've been looking for a dc2r for the last few months but a friend has come along and offered me his dc5r for about the sort same money that i would have spent buying a dc2r. Now the dc5r has higher than normal K's, about 140,000km's, has a few minor problems such as air condenser need replacing, headlights leaking.

Which would you buy if in the same situation? Cheers

ask him to get the parts fixed on the dc5r and then talk about $$ with him

we need more details on the cars, like year, kms, mods etc

if the dc5 is mechanically fine, just the condensor and bolt on stuff like headlights go for it but if there an engine problem, prolly cost u same amount as a normal dc5R

I've test driven about 5 dc2r's. Most under 100,000km's. I definately set my heart on it. I drove my friends dc5r and the performance is very similar honestly i could not tell the difference. Maybe because I haven't maxed out the potential of each car? Anyways, stuff thats steering me towards the dc5r: Better Interior / Driver position. Updated Body shape - basically all things asthetics. The DC5r is a 2002 model with 160,000km's. Engines been well looked after from what I can see, he never tracks his car and daily drives it.

Should I be worried with the K's? Anything else to look for with a dc5r that is 5 years old with above average KM's? Thats what I'm mainly after. Cheers

+1 vote for the DC2R. Find a clean example with the lowest k's possible and least mods and you will love it.

DC5R, only because your going to look like your cashed up driving it :) DC2R on the other hand is more a boy racer which car enthusiasts will recognise.

Im assuming your going to get it for around 21k>??? If so, there is plenty of room to rebuild the motor and gearbox and be better off then buying a Low Km one in the first place.

DC5 also look better IMO.

Have you noticed how dc2 owners say dc2 and dc5 owners say dc5, personnally id go a dc5 for the main reason its a better base car with more potential

im biased and own a dc5r but i have driven both, like them both the same but at the end of the day dc5 is a newer car and has more potential for power

From what I've read on the internet/forums (so it must be right :P). it seems that the DC5R is slightly easier to live with (i'm guessing due to slightly more torquey engine, bigger boot, etc). Also K series motor is more responsive when it comes to modifications.

But a lot of people seems to say that stock, the dc2r is a better drivers car.

so depends on what you're looking for in a car...

You've got a DC2 now, if you like what your in now, the DC2r would be a nice upgrade.

DC5R feels alot different, personal preferences, test drive both and see which one you like better.

What condition is the DC2R in? The DC5R is a great daily/weekend car, which ever you make it out to be. More bolstered recaros, cleaner interior, and more potential. DC2R is getting old but that's a selling point to some people, it can be seen as a classic.

IMO, get the one with less problems, doesn't seem like you're that fussed. + it'll save you headaches later.

Chassis-wise, the DC2R is better than the DC5R. It's because the DC2R started life as a coupe. The DC5R chassis was derived from the Stream minivan. That is one reason why it gets Macpherson struts instead of the DC2R's doublewishbones all round.
