Similar thing happened to the Euro's rear lights where the boot hinge would pinch the wiring and snap it. It's not only isolated to Thailand. It's because the car is built to the dollar.

Interestingly, it affects JDM civics as well. As I just read it on the Singapore FD forum. Thought I wasn't affected as my VIN number wasn't in the range. Now that I have read the Honda Australia statement, I now realise the vin I read off fd singapore pertains to their cars so now, I'm affected too

am I reading right... my VIN number falls in the range but mine is an auto, so its fine right?

Maybe they should give us free cookies when we get it fixed? Whilst it's great that they put in the effort to recall something when there is potential for a safety issue, they also need to consider not everyone has spare time to just... take their car in.

(and yes I'm aware that I'm spending my Saturday night/Sunday morning posting on OzHonda forums)

is it possible to fix it ourselves? No time to take into Honda. If its just relocating some cables, it shouldnt be too hard, just need instructions

Yeah i was wondering wats YM for at first..but figured it out later.

SO wats the next step to this?

We book our cars in for inspection or we just wait till the next service ( in that case i have to wait for another 9000kms for my next service). Anyone can briefly explain the usual proicedure for recalls. thx

If you go to www.recalls.gov.au its all there. I wonder why they didn't know anything about it? The info on this website would have to have come from the manufacturer in the 1st place?? Am I correct?

man... this civic starting to look like one of those Microsoft products!!! Release a product, then you have to install Service Pack 1, 2, 3, etc... T-T

Why, because it has four faults? Have you seen other new car models that have come out - some have 10-15 plus faults!

Zdster

no zdster not because it has 4 faults... -_-"

anyway, this one has more than 4 i believe... :p what do u guys think, o' Civic owners out there... (sum1 got 20ish last time in this forum...)

Are you talking about 'faults' or 'recalls' as there is a very large difference between the two.

ummm... i believe you're the one who called it "four faults" instead of "four recalls"?

Anyway, nevermind of my comments... i'll delete it soon...

just rang the dealer and they didn't know anything about it.

honda australia said to wait until we get a letter in the mail.

obviously isn't life threatening!!

they haven't notified honda dealers in australia of this yet. i haven't heard of any cases of this happening in civics either.

Maybe it's not a critical issue... any thoughts?

honda has now notified dealers of the recall, but no no details of what the recall involves.

Please be advised that Honda Australia has advised DOTARS (Department of Transport &Regional Services) of our intention to implement a Product Safety Recall for the following models:
Product Recall 5EY 2006YM-2007YM Civic 4D stop lamp switch and other components.
so by that i would sugget it involves inspection of the stop lamp switch and related components for possible replacement.

when querying dealers about it refer it it as the 5EY campaign and they should hopefully know what you are talking about

failure of the brake switch besides not illuminating the brake lights (potential for someone to run up your bum) may cause the lock out solenoid in your auto gearbox to malfunction. Reckon there were several gripes on this auto lockout problem reported by some users previously

Same on this front, haven't heard anything from either Honda dealer (the one where I bought it, and the one where I service it). My civic is in the range to be recalled - guess I'll just have to jog their memory when I take it in for the 30k service next week..
