View Full Version : If you have a Mugen Wing on your car, can you still use a carwash?
I mean those ones at the servos. I know alot of people here are obviously against using such carwashes, but I was just curious if the Mugen Wings would be strong enough to survive the carwash. I was watching it the other day and the big roller thing which comes down on the boot spinning might be a bit rough on the wing...
And no I'm not planning on trying.

I never go to one of those types of carwashes...you can get the touch free carwash at carlovers but I"m not a fan either..doesn't do much if your car is dirty lol

Don't use the roller ones at all. It's like taking a Vileda mop and washing your car with it by slapping the paint with all your strength. Use the self serve ones with the high pressure spray instead.

at dis new service station in North Rocks, they have like 10 guys all at it washing the cars for u .. lol
and they all wear da same clothes.. like uniform lol.. stands out heaps everytime i drive past
^ I wonder if there are any such carwashes which have a more "equal-employment-opportunity" team of people washing cars in our area (i.e. not gender biased towards men)!

I had a Mugen wing like my old one "below" things will go snappy if you take it through a car wash too often... It will chip the paint around the edges too and get caught in the uprights. Not advised :)

Some are good, some are not so good. I've been to 2, both under the same franchise but one was good, while the other used dirty cloths and stole coins from your coin compartment. :)

Brushless automatic car washes, are not bad, and i just stress NOT BAD
its not good either.
but yeah like spunky monkey says, its not so effective if your car is really dirty

Thanks mate. I think I will start using the brushless ones. There's one in Dural which uses "Rainbow Wax" although it's questionable as to what's so special about rainbow coloured wax. Any smart people here got ideas?

Wow that's good actually... if they come and handwash it if it fails! It's like a guarantee on a car wash~

It's just a name. It's BS to spray wax on because the car is still dirty after a touchless wash, so the wax just goes ontop of the bird poo.

If you have $18-20 to spend per carwash, go to Crystal Car Wash over at Chatswood. They are not bad. Avoid the one in Kingsford/Maroubra. If you are cheap and only want to spend $2-4, then go to a selfserve high pressure carwash bay.

yes the paint from the roller washers scratch your paint, because of reasons stated earlier, i go to a car wash where people wash the car for you, this ensures that the car wont get scratched and its roughly the same price. ($10.00)
Over the year, I have been to several car washes (I admit I like the Shell ones which dry the car too ><) but now there are lots of tiny scratches on the car. Obviously with the wing installed I'm not going to do that again, but do you guys reckon going to get a full on buff (they're like $100ish aren't they?) will help fix that up?
I've also got my keying on the driver's door which I've filled with touch up paint to the point where it's as thick as the door; but you can see the touch up paint being a different share of black (despite being official Honda touch up paint)...
... so I'm thinking of a full on car wash with professional buff and so on to fix up these issues. Do you think it'll be worthwhile?
ps. I've decided no more machine washes with the wing on!

you let birds poo on your car?
lol
im a massive fan of a specific car lovers down here... has both the high pressure hose and wash brush on a central mounted swivel (most only have hose in the middle and brush to one side meaning when your using the brush on the other side of your car the f*%@en hose keeps hitting it!).

wash 'n' shop at Whitfords city if ur in W.A.
cant go wrong.
and if you let birds poop on your car get it off straight away because bird's eat acidic berrys that will sink into the paint and the only way to get rid of it is to repaint the pannel, and $100 is pretty cheap for a buff, work charges $250, when i get my buff ill prob charge $150-$200.

They can poo, but in 7 seconds (the time for me to open my boot and get my spray bottle out), I clean the poo off without touching my paint. :)

I'll try to do the same, but people here will probably laugh at me. There is a reason why the rear of my Euro is lower than the front. LOL

I'll post up a pic and you can understand how obsessed I am with detailing. The ironic thing is that my car is usually dirty because it is parked outside. But it has very few swirls. :)

i pic out pieces of dirt off my floor mats with my fingernails.... thats how obsessed i am! ill have to get pic of my new interior panels and racing pedals... cost me a fortune!
Haha it would be nice if someone posted up a list of "recommended" products. For me, I only have that 'waterless car wash spray', some microfibre clothes, and a bottle of water in my boot. Any products recommended to add to my boot which will come in handy?

There was a thread about that. But since that was a long while ago I'll post up my recommended stuff list because it has changed since then.
BTW, we should make another thread about detailing products and showing off your boot and not clutter this thread up. ;)

if your really worried about washing your car, then do it yourself like the others have stated. that way if you do get any paint chips or scratches you know straight away about it. As for products maguirs is what i use and my car always looks good...... Apart from the curb damage. damn low front bar...
