Are CAI's legal in Victoria? I heard any pod that isn't contained in a box is illegal. Can someone verify this? I want to install a CAI in my DC5R.

probably best to check with your road authority.
here in NSW, i hear a different tale from Police, ADRs, Blue/Pink Slip places, RTA.
ADR rules would be the one to follow though, but if it ain't covered then it's your states road authority.
A CAI is usually OK though as the pod would reside somewhere in the fender and still be 'boxed' away from the engine.

As long as they can't see it :)

In melb I'm pretty sure you are allowed one intake modification without engineers certificate, so I'm assuming CAI would be seen as ok as long as it was your only intake mod.
And same goes with the pod, I've been pulled by police before and they've gone and checked under the bonnet didn't even give my pod a second glance. heard from tafe mates that in vic it's not illegal for a pod to be in a box

haf u got pod down to ur front bar
i have been defectred with pod filter exposed in the engine bay. in nsw, it has to be boxed.
you dont want the pod filter too close to the road (half way down the front bar)..... trust me you dont want water in your engine.

unlikely to just accidentally get water-lock unless your pod is completely immersed in water though.

its probably more benefitial for you to keep your filter enclosed anywayz...
there's some minor mods that can be made to pipe cold air into a stock airbox...and have a pod fit inside...
staying legal: +1
keeping hot engne bay air from intake: +1

thats what i have done.
i have managed to find a k&n pod filter thats small enough to go inside the factory airbox and run a flex pipe to the top of the front bar opening to get a direct air feed.
i was a PITA to clean it last saturday.... :thumbdwn:

it is unless your doing like 5krpm while getting the pod immersed.
best way around it is to cut your CAI and put a bypass filter.

I would like to fit one into my stock airbox too. Was any modification was required? How's it sound? :)

yeah abit of fvcking around attaching the pod filter... minor mods inside the airbox was required to attach the pod filter, the rest was quite simple.
it sounds great. its on the RX8 though.
i have done similar to the EK civic, but left the paper air filter in the box... no sound diff....
