Hey there guys got my new coil today and chucked it in. I have spark now but she still wont fire. Is there any tricks to get these things started. I have read about shorting out that timing thing on the ecu. Will that help or is there something else wrong. Will be trying it 180 out in a minute and giving that timing shorting theing a go and will get back here and let yas know but if there is someone that has heard of this thing some insight would be sensational.

i really can't be 180 out, unless you have completely dissasembled the dizzy.
it can only go in 1 way.

Yup yup , there is a slot in the camshaft that allows only one way in.
Have u tried retarding the timing slightly to get it to kick over ? OR have you flooded the engine ?(too much trying to start)

timing could be way off as well btw.
on the timing belt side of things.
lol.

Three things to make a car start:

Spark
Air
Fuel

If you got spark in all 4 clylinder, check for fuel.

Your timing might be out of wack.

Might need to give it bit of gas/throttle, to help burn all that excess fuel in the system due to cranking it over so mcuh times. Check your sparkies to make sure there not foul.

Shorting the timing connector only takes away the ECU compensations for setting your base timing.

Are your leads in the right order? 1-3-4-2?

Havent tryed to start it for 2 days. but then i was trying alot. Ya would have thought the fuel would dry up by now. I havent had this engine running with this ecu yet so i wanna make sure i have the right setup . i have a d16y4 engine, a d15b dizzy (off an efi eg civic sedan) and wiring loom from the same vehicle.
I also want to know if without th eair bypass valve not connected ( still waiting for it) will that stop it starting.
And another thing with the dizzy is that when i set the timing to tdc i noticed the tdc sensor in the dizzy did not line up any where near the sensor. I will post a pick up in a minute and you guys can tell me if this is where it should sit when at tdc on the crank mark.

Here is 2 pics of the dizzy location, when i take it it is on firing stroke and on exhaust stroke

What your looking at is the No1 cylinder position sensor, tells the ECU where No1 cylinder is at so it can inject into the right cylinders.

The TDC sensor is located in the base of the dizzy on the other end of the shaft.

Without the IACV connected the engine will not idle very high let alone start, but should do if ur doin a cold start & the FITV is open & sucking cleanly.

I got the car to kick and run for like 4 sec. then nothing. stop cranking and then try and start again it will kick and nearly start but wont run. My pressure reg is at 20psi. I am going to check my spark plugs now and see if they are fouled. and the timing light is at the second mark so it should fire hey.

fuel pressure seems a little low, should be up around the 40-45psi mark.

yeah fuel pressure should be over at least 35 psi.

^^agreed with both above....

my car wouldn't even start properly on less than 30psi with an afpr

is that the vac off value?

I have a VL fuel pump in it. Shouldnt that be big enough. it ran it before when i had the microtech on it.

doesn't matter if you only have 20psi pressure.

a bigger pump will increase fuel pressure due to increased flow... the fact you have lower than standard with a "VL fuel pump" is an issue.... well i'm assuming it has a higher flow rate than ur stocker.

how did you measure the pressure? got an afpr with gauge?

TRB03

yeah there is a gauge on the fpr. So ya telling me that a vl rb30 fuel pump has lower pressure than a d16y4 fuel pump. Or could be that fact that the vl pump is fooked

You got any vacuum leaks ?

Your FPR might be rooted. Try running the stocker on the fuel rail IF you kept it and remove the aftermarket one.

not neccessarily rooted... just depends on the flow rate.

Just coz its bigger don't mean it flows more or is better... heck gen2 V8s are slower then all current Falcomodor sport V6s....

but as stated, do the fpr check first... could just be rooted spring in your fpr.... good excuse for you to get an afpr.

At this stage if the fpr is rooted then vac wouldn't matter as your getting 20psi at prime without your engine even running.

Get a bottle of "Start ya Bastard" and try to run the car with it. If it runs, you have a fuel problem. If you have spark, I would have a serious look at the fuel system.

By the look of things your timing cannot be out, except for the timing belt slipping. If in doubt, check top dead centre, take off FPR and get or borrow a flow tester to check fuel flow etc.

EFI cars are very hard to flood. Only generally due to incorrect ECU tuning.

Goodluck man...

yeah got it to idle and rev up this morning, cleaned the plugs and plugged the return line to build up pressure. Ran fine than the fuel pump shat itself. I have had 1 problem with it a while ago but thought it was over. got a new one comming tomorow. so will let yas know how it goes. Thanks for all the help tho. Sometimes when y aget pissed at ya car it is easy to look passed the easy things.

so issue was the pump?
