Ok so i was driving on m4.. then i hear rocks it my window.. got home and on the bottom right corner theres a chip which turned into a crack .. its left to right about 5-7cms long..
I called Obrien either to repair or replace..
Prices :
Repair the crack (if repairable) - $180
Replace and Fit - $380
These are just over the fone quotes.. What do you people think i should do?
Im taking it to obrien on saturday to get a definate quote and looked at.. but wouldnt it be save to say its better to replace if the repair price is $180 bucks?

If its not too major repair would be the way to go.
But 5-7cm long is pretty nasty.
I have a 1cm crack on the first layer of my windscreen, needa get that fixed soon.

Get it fixed so that it doesnt spider out. $180 seems like a fair price, assuming they can fix it.

hmmm, anyone knoe if a repair is done you can still see the crack? its like at the bottom so u cant notice it bigtime from the inside but still see it..
atm its all tapes up to prevent it getting bigger. but yeh if 180 seems fine its better than 380 LOL

****sorry, off topic****
dc2r's have a lighter windscreen
do the glass suppliers know the difference?
or do they just give you a normal dc2 windscreen?

nah they asked me my car model etc? so i would say specific to the model?
beeza, where you get that quote from?

I got my DC2 front windscreen replaced for $175 and it was done really well as far as fitment goes. I recommend you try going to an independant business. I got mine done at a place called windscreen deals in Heidelberg West but im sure theres similar places closer to where you live

those quotes are a lil high man. if you want honda genuine glass it will be more expensive but most windscreen replacements can be done for $210 or less.
usually the only expensive ones are vehicles with rain sensors such as euro lux and mdx

It was a random independent buisness I pulled out of the phonebook.Sorry not sure which one but I just rang a few out of the phonebook.I'm in Queensland. But yeah just ring around cause prices as with everything vary dramatically...
I just moved house recently and was quoted from $70/hr to $175/hr. for the same thing,2 men and a truck.Off coarse I took the $70/hr and they did an awesome job.Ya gotta shop around :)

sounds like you are going to replace the whole screen which is a good idea. you dont want to repair the crack and later on this sort of thing happens again, and it spiders out into other cracks.
pay a bit more for safety etc. well worth it :)

hey dude
i had a crack on the bottom of my front windscreen around 7- 10cm long and i got it repaired for like 60 bucks. Guaranteed to pass rego and never to spider out...
in terms of appearance, the crack is still visable, but depending on the crack (air bubble) itself he told me that some turn out alrite.
if you want the contact details let me know and i will find it for you...
he came out while i was at work and did it on the streets

ah thanks for the headsup maen.. although yeh i dont wna get it repaired.. rather replaced. im the type who worries about small things.
and yeh its grown to about 15 cms now! bwahaha i was out late and looks like the moisture parking my car for 4 hours last night made it bigger.. so ye $230 seems ok for a replacement.. well better than $380..

chips will eventually turn into cracks.
weather, and vibration will do that

nah, i stay out claiming anything with justcars.. it would increase my premium?
i woudl replace it.
5-7cm is quite long.
I had a 3 cm one before on my old eg and even that was a bit big.
i have that one repaired, they sorta drill in to it a bit fill it and smooth it off.
its ok, but its sort of a bit blurred in taht section.
so imho i reckon you should replace it.
