Hi All

I have asked my mechanic to do a major service on my car this weekend.

I have a list of things that usually have to be done on a major service. If i am missing anything can you guys add to the list.

I also have Oil leaks on:

Rear main engine seal
Oil Sump

My personal mehanic said it's going to cost around $1800 all together. I have talked to my friend xp0s3d and he says that this seems a bit high. Do you guys seem this is abit much ?

I was quoted the following by Hanny's performance

$260 rear main engine seal
$400 clutch
$175 Belt
$150 Major service
$250 parts

$1200 all up

I have a

D15B SOHC VTEC

What am i missing ?

Timing Belt
Replace Engine oil
Replace Engine oil filter
Replace air filter element
Replace Fuel filter
Replace Spark plugs
Inspect and adjust drive belts
Replace Coolant
Replace Transmission fluid
Replace brake pads
Replace Brake fluid

Basically all fluids, belts, possible machining of discs, maybe new pads, obviously replacement of things will be decided by the condition of the part. Fuel filter, Air filter, spark plugs, coolant, ps steering fluid, transmission fluid, oil filter, sump plug washer, radiator bung, break fluid, rotate and balance tyres (get best tread depth on the fronts), Fuel injection clean, Throttle botter clean I know I have mentioned stuff you already have but Im just going over it in my head on what I do for major service :P thats all I can think of, if you got any more questions feel free to pm

here's the thing an 80,000km service would have covered pretty much all of that cept the belts and P/S fluid flush and repairs to leak(s). If you did the 80,000km don't bother changing the brake fluid, gearbox oil, radiator coolant. That's if you did it. And I'm pretty sure brake fluids don't need constant changing or else it's money down the drain, gearbox oil is recommended like once every 2 years or something like that I do mine once a year.

x2 thatr ^^ , the usual fluids, coolant and break fluid get changed at about every 30,000km, every 2 years or so, in the end its upto you. It should have been covered as shadou said, you would have another year before they are due changing if you have done the 80,000.

Hey Marko

I called Hanny's performance and Robert quoted me

$260 rear main engine seal and oil sump seal
$400 Clutch
$175 Belt (he provides the belt)
$150 Major service
$250 parts

All up around $1200

I Talked to my mechanic and he usually does it alot cheaper then most shops and he said this price is a bit to low.

What do you think ?

Go with whom you know imo and who knows your car, but hey if thats a good deal go for it, that sounds like an alirght price to me, but you never know, they might have missed something and will need to upsell it to you during the service

I've heard about more expensive major services.
Mine was around 900$ I thought that was too cheap!

Well it depends on the condition of your engine, if more things need changing then hell yeah its gonna cost more.

The 100,000kms service / 5 year service requires them to lift up the engine block (If im told correctly).

It depends wether your car have been serviced regularly before the major service then it should all be cheaper.

no the 100,000km does not require you to lift up the engine but it most likely does require the engine itself to be supported due to one (or more) mounts been taken out.
Lucky you don't own a v8 soarer those things are an absolute **** to get to the timing belt.

$175 for a cambelt replacement?
thats a lil too cheap, doesnt sound right unless they work for next to nothing coz thats a relatively big job

Yer thats what my personal mechanic said. He said unless they work for $200 labor then thats way to cheap.

lol best recorded time for a timing belt change I've seen was like 43minutes or something along those lines, was a sohc civic and the SA gave it to one of the senior techs an hour before knock off, lol he did 10 minutes of swearing and cursing then **** did he move fast to get it done before home time
