How good is the factory security alarm/immobiliser? What are the better alternatives?

I've got a Brandt alarm with pin number start (like Subaru WRX) and internal siren. Full 9 point system when used with factory alarm.
I thought you couldn't get a DC5 insured without an upgraded alarm.

not that good.
well actually i can't say not that good, but it actually doesn't have an alarm at all.
It is just an immobiliser,(i think) but if you did try to steal the car like open the door without unlocking it with remote, it "might" sound a horn. therefore I'm not sure because I have an alarm installed on mine (not an upgrade, a aftermarket one) what happens is that every once in a while, for e.g. 3 times in 7months, the factory alarm sounds the horn when I unlock it with my aftermarket remote and open the door. which I need to close it and lock and unlock it with the factory remote to turn the factory horn off.
If your planning on getting an aftermarket one, I would suggest to get an upgrade as you don't need 2 remotes, + u get shock sensor that triggers the siren etc..etc.. if someone tried to break into it by slamminmg the door to get the rubber of the window so they can use something to unlock it and stuff. (it happened to me just last week), the alarm will go off..

i got no alarm on mine, just the stock immoboliser/remote central locking and i got insurance no problems
my last car had an aftermarket alarm and after a few years, the locking mechanism stopped working - eventhough the alarm was armed when i pressed the remote, it wouldnt lock the doors.
had to get that fixed out of warranty, which was annoying.

it does have an alarm, may not be a good one but it is an alarm.
i have never had a someone try to steal mine, so cant say if its effective or not,
but i never leave mine in any dodgy areas, its in a garage at night, and its parked 10m from my desk at work so no real security risk for me.

i thought the dc5r only had central locking?
it has central remote locking, immobiliser and alarm.
next time your at your car, put the window down and lock it, leave it for the red light to start flashing on the dash and pull up the lock.
the alarm will go off. press the keys on the remote to stop it.

There is an alarm, its not a very good one but this is the only way to trigger it off .. unless there is another way.
Assuming your car window get's smashed in, the thief opens the door from the inside, so that he can get in, the alarm will trigger.

most insurance companies will cover you know matter what, alarm or not... here's the catch though, if you look in the fine print of your contract with them you will only be covered for theft if you have a 3 point passive arming immobilizer installed.
some companies will insist on it before they insure you (ie young and cool when they were still around) but some will insure you and leave it up to you to read your contract and the terms in which they will cover you.
It's probably a good idea to re-read or for some, read for the first time, the terms set out by your insurer.

you should use a clublock, and a decent one. mine one came with a 2000$ cash back if the car got stolen.
plus clublocks can be used as a legal weapon. :)
my alarm is stock and i had no problems gettin insurance

i just install a new aftermarket 2 way pager alarm in my DC5R
i know it come with a immo Key and remote central locking as stock...but cant find any alarm and siren....
thats why i put a alarm in.....
i can still get insured with stock immo but i reckon its better to put alarm in it for extra safely..
two way pager system, shock censor, auto lock...
my key pad will vibrate if anyone touch my car outside my house

i tried this.. it didnt go off.. soo i dont think the alarm really is an alarm, i think its just a immobiliser so yeah.. just yeah.. telling u what actually happens.. maybe its just my car but yeah.. i reckon just get a new alarm system by itself best way to go.. but saying u got insurance anyways so yeah they should cover it if it gets stolen.. or just park somewhere u can keep an eye on it or where no1 will do anything to it so yeah.. :D:thumbsup: keep it real homie hehe
could de different for DC5S, i dunno, but does it on mine, and mine has all stock fobs and as far as i know its all stock alarm etc.
is there a red flashing light on your dash after uve taken the keys out for a bit?
honda brochers specify both immobilisers and alarms for both DC5R and DC5S

plus clublocks can be used as a legal weapon. :)
Ah Excuse me?
No. They are not a legal weapon.
If you happen to find yourself in the unfavourable situation of being under attack in your car and to use the clublock was in a self-defence capacity as you believed - as any reasonable person would - your life to be in danger, then you would have reasonabe grounds to use said clublock to strike the offender to prevent the taking of your life - But no more.
Shit. If you turned around to a cop after you smacked someone just trying to steal your car and said that, I'd guarentee you, you will be arrested and charged with battery.

Steelmate 888; Generally from Jaycar, but I don't beleive a lot of them stock it anymore.
You can get them cheaper - for instance, mine was $170.
Installs should cost around $70-$150.
For your 3-Point Insurance Company Certified Alarm System to be Compliant to your policy, ensure your alarm is fitted by a holder of a Class 2 (D - I believe, They've recently been changed. If not, it is C.) Security Licence (NSW)
