View Full Version : EK9 Engine & swapping

Is the EK9 Type R engine a B16B ?
And what ECU does the B16B use ?

In my previous thread i was talking about engine options. They were either rebuilding my Y4 with a Y8 head and some other stuff, or engine swap. In the end i decided its pointless to go with the Y4, and thought i might just look into engine swaps.

And wondering, should i be looking towards a B16B or B16C ?

EDIT: (i dont have that much money, what would be cheaper option)

Ahhh lol, i was thinking of a B18C (lol ;))

Out of B16b & B18c7 what would i be better off getting?
(im kinda thinking B18, seeing its 1.8)

And yea, the K20a is WAY out of my budget

The B18 might not be cheaper (not 100% sure), but it is easier to access and you will produce more power.

Can someone tell me rough prices on

B18C7
B18C

(I see no B18C2 in that link, just a B18C from the DC2 VTi-R)
Any rough price is fine, just wanting ideas.

to answer one of your 1st questions, B16B uses PCT ecu, OBDIIb

B18c7 running gears 6.5k +
B18c2 4k+

You have to also budget for wiring loom, mounts, computer. Thats an extra hundred. Plus installation.

As ive been told, i wont need an engineering certificate for B16B, how about for the B18C's, will that need to be engineered?

Because thats the reason i was staying away from engine conversion in the first place...

AKmotorworks has a b18c2 halfcut for $3650

They're in melb, but its a halfcut with almost everything you need

And i don't know my budget yet, because it is a year long project (well i have till July 08' to complete it, i hope to be finished sooner though, so i can make money as i go, and possibly a loan or something to buy the engine. Ill see how it works out)

If you dont have much money, keep your car stock.

Save more until you have enough for the setup, for any possible problems along the way, and money left over to live/play with.

B18c won't need engineering.

If you decide to go with the B18c2 motor you'll need to budget for wiring loom, conversion harness, rear engine mount bracket and etc. Easy extra $500.

Just go with either B16b or EK4 B16a. Direct swap in and out.

I'm just trying to decide how much money to get lol

Right now i'm thinking either a B16 something (not sure which B16 yet) or a B18C2...
