hey guys,

i have searched the site and only found DIY CTR grille for 99-00 EK civics.

my dilema is that i have purchased a 97 grille to make a DIY CTR grille and what i didnt know is that all the diys are for the 99-00 facelifted models and the grile on those is a Two piece and it comes apart where as the grille on the 96-98 models is a one piece!

has anyone done a CTR grille on a 96-98 model ek before if so some guidance would be great. i am looking at cutting out the centre bit the grille with a dremel or something simular but then i dont know hwo to attach the mesh :(

any help would be great guys!

cheers :)

Na i did that. I cut out my center with a blade (what a pain in the ass) took forever. I ended up cutting out main center with tin snips, and lots of black plastic with tin snips. and the last bit, where it joins the paint, i did with a blade. Then just sanded it a tiny bit. It looks near perfect, and for mesh you have to like hot glue it down or something. I haven't done my mesh yet, i can only find large $30 sheets of the stuff i like, and i dont need that much, but i planned on hotgluing or liquid nailing it, and seeing how that goes...

you can cut the center with a hot blade just becareful, saves u time from sawin it off and then sand it abit =)

a hot blade?

yeah using a blade might be easier. just cut it carefully. so that the lines are straight and not all bumpy etc so that you have to sand it. blade will save you time.

heating up the blade may help

i done my 96 i cut out all the centre but the back edge looked crap so i cut the back edge off mine till it was all flush

i just took like 1cm of the top and bottom and then matched the lines for the edges by using tape

i put the tape so it was coming off at the same angle as the top edge then wraped it around till it met the top edge the i cut that line

iv seen a few ppl post out the diy thread to Jord but most ppl dont get the grills are diffrent ek1 have a 1 piece grill and i think the newer models up have 2,(i know cuz i have a ek1) on ek1 u can't pull the black center bit off cuz its not screwd on its basicly part of the gill which u need to cut off, like i sed b4 just use a hot blade but becareful..!!

no need for a dremel just get a stanley knife and a blowtorch and heat it up. i bought the mesh a few days ago ill makea DIY for you guys. mind you i encourage you makea DIY using dremel and me hotknife :) nothing wrong with 2 DIY's, good luck buddy!
if you guys need a detail on the tools used im more than happy to help, i know prices and where to buy cause i work at bunnings! (in tool section as well!)

i started mine today cut most of the middle section out! my cheap arse dremel thing was useless at the cutting stage!so i uses some scissors and a stanley knife worked fine i thought! i then used the dremel thing to tidy most of it up! got a fair bit to go so i rekon ill get the mesh next week and get ti all finished :)

i finished mine, the torch heating up plastic + stanley knife did it in about 30 minutes (rushing to get to uni LOL). then cause i have the 96-98 model i got pretty dicked as to where to cable tie the mesh (on the top bit, no clips!). so im probably gonna get clear silicon and outline the outside of mesh hope that works.
the EK99-00 tutorials shows easily to fix the mesh on, you cant with EK 96-98's

i also bought some filler, because the bit where i hacked off the plastic has a big mess. and im gonna wet sand back the entire inside (80, 120, 360) and then use filler to smooth out the outer part of the grill to the inside (theres a inside frame which makes it look ugly so ill smooth that out), then i got some touch up paint cypress green (matched to my exact car), some grey primer which ill prime the inside and then colour it.

will post pics/DIY later!
for all those wanting to mesh a 96-98 EK! i hope your not a big perfectionist like me lol
