Currently the owner of a 1997 Suzuki Swift GTi. It's a great car that I will miss but have decided to sell it and get something more practical and comfortable and after looking around at a lot of different cars I seem to have settled on a Honda Accord which appear to be great all round cars and good value!

Just got my eyes primarily on CD5 models 94-97 (think) in vti or vti-s trim levels and manual. Took one for a drive the other day and it was a very smooth car and you could hardly tell the car was even on! A good and bad thing I have found with cars but I can get used to that, heh. I would have liked to put the foot down more to get a taste of the engine and V-Tec but the owner was sitting next to me so just babied her out of respect. But there's some better deals around in what I want (not many unfortunately!) so going to keep trying to pursue them before they are sold.

I never really pictured myself a Honda owner, particularly after owning arch nemisis Suzuki's the last 4 years since I got my license , hehe.;) However I almost would have had a Preulde as my first car if it wasn't so expensive.:p I have also been a fan of Integras for the last few years. Nice cars. Not really a big fan of the Civics due to them being a ricer special, lol. And ofcourse I am partial to the very sexy NSX and not to mention the S2000!

Will let you know if/when I get my hands on an Accord. Looking forward to it and to further discussion in the forums. I know I am going to have plenty of questions and more reading to do in the future. P.S I have been lurking for the past week or so.

Hey Gards! WELCOME to OzHonda! I own a CD5 myself...good car to drive around with. but depends if u want speed as well as looks. the CD5 IMO is one of the best looking accords out there....of course the Euro is on top of the list.

im not happy with the power at the moment, planning to get H22a and putting a turbo in as well. Is that sorta what ur looking at doing as well? if u have any questions about the CD5, just let me know and i'll see if i can help u out. if not, there's a thread here specifically for Accords.

Lol sorry mate didn't mean to offend there, I was half joking. I also was stereo typing I am sure there are Civic owners with taste out there but I still think there are better looking Hondas but the civic itself is a pretty solid package depending on model. I could have used many other examples such as lancers ect as ricer favourites. Nor are the Swifts immune to ricer additions.;)

Looks like you have a newer model Civic late 90s/early 2000 there which is not the usual ones I diss.:p

Not looking for performance so much or I would just keep the Gti and mod it more or just sell it and get an r33 skyline lol. As I said I'm going for safety, comfort and space while retaining a good looking car. Ofcourse it's still good to have some power for driveability and I wouldn't buy something gutless and after a few drives the manual accord goes ok without blasting away. I did some research and it's 0-100 time is reasonable (9.1 seconds) which is comparable to a stock Gti. So I will have to be fairly content with the power and stockiness as I am not buying it as a performance car or powerful street car nor do I want extensive mods that potentially sacrifice reliability, economy and hurt my wallet. If I wanted H22a I probarly would just buy a type R now or prelude ect, that's hyperthetically if I could afford such.

No plans for mods other than maybe a zorst/filter, rims and springs, possibly down the track to improve looks and give it a little more go/road holding. I agree it already is a decent looking car, especially the front. Interior is nice on the eyes as well and a good place to be in. It is a fairly easy car to drive and I think the suspension is great, on my short drives it was compliant and comfortable on bumps without being a floaty piece of crap aka falcadore. How do you rate these things on the highway? As I want a car that is better for going away on long trips. I have settled on getting an accord pretty much but still interested in your answer. I know you have to keep the revs up for your the hills ect in typical jap 4 cyl style but it's pretty comfy on the open road/highway yes? I.e. stable, not choppy, doesn't get blown around by wind too much, quiet ect? (Can you tell I own a swift lol). I know these cars are refined and were designed as a prestige family sedan so I imagine it's good in this regard.

Thanks for replying guys, was wondering if anyone would, ha ha! Sorted had given up then noticed an email today that mentioned replies heh.

great on the highway. the cd5 loves a long and open road, especially when you activate the cruise control. it just flies through with no hassles at - its a real smooth drive.

i know what u mean about buying a faster car - so why put in a h22?

Simple: its coz i want to be different. everyone would expect a type R or skyline or even a prelude to to go fast, but not an accord. I like to be different. And that's what modifying is all about, being different by trying things that will work

I am sure you will enjoy your Accord and wont regret! Good luck :D

Yea I know I wasn't being negative about your decision to do it. You like your comfortable accord but want some more power while providing a unique sleeper package. Indeed this is modifying. Was just saying for me I am not looking to do it. Good luck with it, I guess the main issue is if the drivetrain will hold up in the long term with the extra power loading it?

I can't wait to own one, looking at another one this arvo, hopefully I am happy with it!

if u get a h22a conversion you will most likely have the gearbox that goes with it
