I figured this qualified as a n00b question as I was told this by a mate the other day and it just didn't seem right to me.

He seems to be of the impression that my white 94 vtir is one of only 10 made or at least shipped to Australia.

I seem to doubt him, anyone here feel the urge to clear this up.

on what grounds did he have to say that only 10 were made?
from observation?

I have a white 95 Vti-R. I have to honestly say I don't see too many VTi-R's around anyway...mostly GSi, more facelift than not.

Yep this qualifies!

Apparently he had been told that back in the day when his mum had bought one, perhaps at the time their were only 10 as he also ads that she had bought the first one.
More than likely though it is all a load of BS.

Yeah I don't see to many VTIRs around where I drive in Brisbane a few GSi and the odd Type-R is pretty much it.

Some don't have the VTIR sticker on the back, like mine...

So which means you probaly saw a VTIR but it looks like a GSI?

yeah but GSi's still have a GSi sticker unless the owner removed it, there's other visual clues to determine that anyhow.

Personally i can not tell the difference between a GSI over a VTIR if there are no stickers on them.

I can only tell the difference if i see whats under the hood. SOHC or DOHC engine.

lol they're both DOHC, easiest way is different rear muffler & tip, and painted door bump strips on VTI-R, wheels are same from '00-'01, assuming it's stock.
Useless trivia......:p

sorry off topic

Notable differences of a VTi-R compared to GSi:

* VTEC !
* Painted door guards
* Optional Sunroof
* Stock badges are different?
* Muffler tip
* Possibly some interior bits
* GSi steelys :P VTi-R blades

Other random facts:

* GSi is 30kg lighter thereabouts
* Different engines, B18C & B18B
* Last VTi-R build was in 1999

also to add
the wheels are mainly are giv off 2

hubcaps/crappy alloys that come on gsi

opposed to blades/fat fives on vtirz

sunroof was available on gsis....from memory 1st series all cars came with them...and 2nd series it became optional

This turned out to be quite a helpful little thread :)

Personally when I spot a teggy the first thing I look at is the exhaust tip, then I look to see if I can see the badge, wheels are usually picked up in there as well.

you can't tell, heaps of gsi owners colour code their moulds, chuck on wheels and do up their exhausts...

If the GSI has cosmetic changes then its "GG"
