Hey guys...

Test drove a S2000 recently and was quite alarmed by this buzzing/whirring sound whenever I eased off the throttle at around 4000rpm...

This was very noticeable in 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Any ideas what's going on?

clutch buzz dude. its been covered so many times.

clutch buzz is no big deal. common for earlier model s2000 99-01.

to rectify the problem most people change to 02 clutch or aftermarket. some people like myself are too poor to do that so we just live with it hahaha

Nah, no clunks from the rear at take off/changing gears...

The car (bonnet and front bumper) also had more stone chips than Lindsay Lohan has freckles....fark!

Ah ok...thanks for clearing that up Fly.

For those of us less in tune with the mechanical side of things, what causes clutch buzz?

Rattling of springs in the clutch disc causes the clutch buzz noise for early model ap1, i installed the ap2 clutch disc and noticed they fixed the problem by putting a cage around the spring to stop it from vibrating.

nothing really to worry about as you will need to replace the clutch sooner or later.

Gotcha!

Thanks for clearing that up - appreciated!

When does the timing belt need to be replaced in an S2000? 5 years or 100k kms? Or something different?

The car uses a timing chain and it should last the life of the engine.

If you get a diesel-like rattling sound when you start the car while the engine is still hot, that's the chain tensioner going.

Without opening a new thread, is $36-37.5k for a 01' model with almost 100,000 kms a fair price?

I wouldnt pay more than 33k for it.
