You will have problems with tyre and wheel sitting out of the wheel arch.

You need something like at 45 offset at least to be safe from rubbing.

You will need a rear camber kit as well unless you can afford to pay for new tyres every 3months if your lowering it.

20" is over kill 19" looks better and many euro owners here are running 19" so I'm sure these are some old posts on this topic, do a search.

Also are you planning or already have other suspension mods as these will affect handling/response with such a large set up?

IMO stay with 17s.Get some good rims and tyres and with the $$$ you save then get coilovers or a good spring/shock combo.Big tyre/rim combos slow down your car and it costs too much $$$ for decent tyres.

Agreed, 20" is too big for the Euro. 18" is the sweet spot imo. 19" max. 17" if u dont wanna spend over $1000 for tyres.

How much are four decent 20" Japanese tyres anyway?

IMO, stick with 17" rims with 225/45R17 tyres. The tyre sidewall-to-rim-to-car proportion is just right.

"Proportion is a correspondence among the measures of the members of an entire work, and of the whole to a certain part selected as standard. From this result the principles of symmetry. Without symmetry and proportion there can be no principles in the design of any temple; that is, if there is no precise relation between its members as in the case of those of a well shaped man". —Vitruvius (Roman Architect), from his works De architectura

each to their own,

i had 20x8.5 offset +42 and it suited it well. 225/35/20. Downside is that yes, it costs a lot per tyre but upside is that it flowed rather nicely i thought with the rest of my car, with it having the mugen kit.

i also lowered it with teins till i had 1.5 finger gap on all 4 corners plus, i didnt need to roll any guards. though if u are thinking of getting 20's think also about getting a camber kit like ingalls

i have 20 x 8.5 +42 offset with 225/30r20 tyres no worries, i dont see why 2mm will make any difference. go ahead

big rims, wide tires = more rolling resistance, acceleration suffers...

ahh thanks to search button i found a thread that would help me..

so with the above tyre/wheel combo
20"x8.5 tyres 235/30/r20 with +42~45 offset

will i be able to have the back rims tucking? without hitting the guards?

i want to have my car pretty low, i've got teins ordered and want it to be really low.. now i know there's gona be legal fan boys in here suggesting 18" is the only way to go.. but hey this is what im after and maybe in 2 weeks i will change my mind :P hehe

what offset/tyre combo would you suggest so i can lower the back without trouble? as i said i want it to be under the guard.. i was also thinking a camber kit for the rears to squeeze bit more life out of the tyres but im not sure if i'll be able to have it tuck and not hit the guards with it

not right now! maybe later, i'm after 20s.. do you have a camber kit on your setup? i want it tuckin' but also want the rim to be as vertical as possible

verticle! not going to happen, put a camber kit on, you will be able to pull 3deg max camber outa the rears. but thats not much when your running like 6-7deg. when your only just tucking about 4-5mm of rim. but then the top of your rim is sitting closer to the outer guard and you run into problems on bumps dammaging your wheels.

20's are fine for everyday, just gota watch out for big bumps. if your orderd tein SS then sorry but your car isnt going to be very low at all, shoulda bought flex.

for the guy who asked about good rubber. pirelli 20" rubber will set you back 600-800 a corner :)

i dont get it.. you got wider tyres and it solved the problem?

am i missing something here :S

EDIT: my bad, i didn't read the quote coz it was underneath :P so from 35 profile to 30 profile it stopped the rubbing
