Rx8 uses 3 times more petrol than a S2k, plus its slow and it has no vt@k yO!

Yes it is a downgrade.

rx8 have the similar power output from factory compared to a honda s2000.. drinks more petrol.. dosent look as hot.. dosent have a soft top.. and not as pimp.. and lastly like DUST said NO VTEC YO!

Rx-8 isn't much of a downgrade, you are comparing 2 different cars.
RX-8 drives similar to s2k, but it has more practicality too.

once the novelty of the rear doors wears off, i think you just find the fact that you have to open your door to let the passenger out annoying.

i don't know about you, i don't get bored of the convertible roof though.

I really like the dynamics of the s2000, in standard trim, the s2000 is a great well balanced, well made, easily maintained, economic, attractive and flexible car.
I think you might just need a break from the car, and to get into another shitbox (like a GTiR), and get things back into perspective before restitution.

the rx-8 hands down easily drinks _much_ more petrol then an s2000.

how's the insurance comparison though?

thats a given... almost every s2k owners hates rx8, and it is pretty much the same the other way around.

back to the topic & as someone have already suggested - go test drive for yourself. its your money and only your opinion count!

I actually drove one for kicks before pruchasing.. Also took a 350Z Track, and a RX7 Spirit R.

RX-7 Spirit R Type B was by far the better choice of the 3. The Z had nice torque, but drove like a boat. The RX-8 had nice........ nice...... paint? lol.

expect very biased opinions when asking whether you should buy a mazda on a honda forum.

like you got told, go and drive the car yourself and see how you go.

remember, its you whos going to own the car in the end so you got to figure out which one floats your boat and caters to you better.

I own and s2k and have driven rx8s.
RX8 is no where near as nimble feeling, ride is heaps softer, but is more quiet and better comfort.
official L/100km is 12.6, but it is way higher. When fanging it, fuel goes down the drain. Expect as even as low as 200km from a full tank of hard driving!
Also youre required to top up engine oil quite often (like litres) - i think even between services - it actually says that as part of the manual.

It also looks crap in my opinion. The motor sounds so unexciting - big hair dryer. Gearing is also really tall.

Then again i can see why some people buy it. 4 seats ("4 doors") and is comfortable, yet still is quite sporty. It is just a good all rounder, a compromised sports car. Not a choice if you want / used to s2000 sportiness.

As others have said, take an RX8 for a spin and see what you think.

This is what I can tell you on paper though:
RX8 has more chassis stiffness:
S2K: 20,000nm/deg or 16nm/deg/kg
RX8: 30,000nm/deg or 22.3nm/deg/kg

RX8 has less power to weight:
S2K: 140kw/ton
RX8: 126kw/ton

RX8 has less torque to weight:
S2K: 165nm/ton
RX8: 157nm/ton

RX8 is more practical.

As to whoever said opening front doors to let rear passenger out is a pain, you have to do that on a 2+2 seater 2 door coupe anyway.

As for personal opinion, I think the S2000 looks better, but you can make the RX8 look pretty good too! And I think an RX8 with a bolt on turbo kit would be a very interesting beast indeed. If I had another car, like an Accord Euro or something for a nice cruiser I might stick with the S2000. But if I only had one car, the practicality of the RX8 would PROBABLY win me over. Please bear in mind though that I have driven neither of these cars.

numbers dont mean a thing here... we can play numbers quoting until the cows come home...

go and test drive one... in my opinion, the s2k was much more of a buzz to drive, nimble, chuckable even. I came out with a smile ear to ear... the RX8 was a more competent cruiser, would eat the freeway miles very easily and in style... still smiled because i appreciate the engineering that goes into making a reliable rotary motor, but it was a different kind of smile...

as a owner of both model, i would say both of it got it's advantage
like s2k no doubt it's fun, smaller ,easier handling, and the unbeatable ROOF~~~

in the same way i also love my sister's rx8, quiet, comfort, drive like a luxury car, and when u hv certain of exterior options, it's easy to stand out in the crown, mine one have a aftermarket madzaspeed wing added and full madza factory outlook options and aftermarket pearl white repray, so far i received none of bads but gds.
but one thing i have to admit is the performance, coz mine is auto, poor gear ratio( 4 gear auto) less power(-30hp to manual).......what a waste...

the looks: both gd i recon

performance:
rx8: manual is a MUST
s2k: a truly potential car to play with

conculsion is if u r simply a lazy ppl like me u probably love rx8, it gives more button to play with inside the car, u can turn your track and music without opening the radio door...(truly a advantage for me)

im pretty sure the original poster isn't an engineer mate... im not an engineer... you may be but who cares... if you haven't driven the cars then stop wasting space with numbers you found off another website

ive driven both, and have contributed... hope it was helpful...

Im not to sure what you intend to gain by puting this question to a Honda community. Im sure u'd get an equally opposed viewpoint from an RX8 forum. Test drive both and make ure own mind up.

when was the respray done? before the factory pearl white came out (mid to late 2006)?

S2k feels like a go-kart. The RX-8 does not. The RX-8 is much easier to live with as a daily driver, but more expensive fuel consumption-wise.

EDIT: Oops. Wrong thread.

I guess I'll put something constructive here.

Don't take our word for it. Go test drive the RX8 and see how it compares to your S2000. As someone said, what do you expect a Honda forum to say when comparing a Honda to another similar car?

If you need the 4 seats go for it. They look pretty cool at least but to me i would keep the S2K they are more fun

Whats the reason you want to sell the S2k??

Bored or lots of stuffs need to be replace?
Need more seating and loading capacity??
No more warranty?

Or keep the S2k and get a corolla for mundane daily stuffs?

Bahahahaha... If a DC5R can beat the crap out of a SE3P in a dash, S2K => SE3P is a downgrade lol.

I can tell you that the SE3P isn't really in the same league as the S2K. Its a luxury performance car as compared to a sport roadster that has all that world's most powerful NA 2L, most exciting chassis, bah bah bah... It can be a downright **** to service when things go wrong, don't get me wrong, it's nowhere near as bad as a FC3S or FD3S, the 13B-MSP is much better behaved than the 13B-Turbo or the 13B-REW could ever be lol. Engine aside, the rest of the car I can quite happily report is a nicer place to be than the S2K. If I had a chance to ride in a hardtop S2K then maybe I can give you a different opinion (I don't like topless beauties lol)
