Hey guys,

If you had a choice between a 06/07 model s2000, a porsche boxter or a bmw z4 which one will you get? This is considering the cars are roughly around the same price $60,000 - $75,000.

The s2000 is the fastest out of all 3, but what about the boxter, I mean its a porsche after all and has more stlye.

I would find it hard to choose between the s2k and boxter, what are you opinions?

Mr_will
24-09-2007, 11:46 AM
you sure the s2000 is the fastest?

personally id go the z4, assuming its the 3.0litre. if the z4 was a 2.5litre, id go the boxster

EK4 Phil

You should have specified which Z4. There are three different models: 2.5, 3.0, 3.2 being the M3 engine.
Here are some 0-100 time of the manuals from the Z4
2.5 = 6.5sec
3.0 = 5.7sec
3.2 = 5.5sec

My choice would be the s2000. I just love it quick, stylish and the Vtec.

you can not buy a used e46 m3 with 60-65g, these around 75g are about 70-100k kms.
t
here is a clip on youtube, they compare these 3 cars and s2k is the lowest.
with 70g dollars id get a Z4.

you should take into consideration maintainence costs, insurance, drivability and most important what you like best.

My preference would be an boxster S, or a R34 skyline GTR. If they are not available options, i would choose a s2000.

Definatley s2k why casue you can mod it mod,has style aswell as class.

the z4 has class but the z4 has known to have rpoblems with their gear box
the boxster appartently their fuel tank get dirty after 45000kms and from what i heard (mechanic) ofcourse its very hard to find a spare fuel tank so yeah well thats my choice :)

well, if you want to be specific, the 3.2 is a Z4M, and is not a convertible, but rather a coupe.

it seems, from the fact that the two other cars he has chosen are convertibles, that he is after a soft top

anyway, boxsters are povo porsches, i just dont like them.

lol think about what your getting for your money
s2k:
a honda lol
a 2L I4 whoopte doo it makes 17x kw its still shit
average interior
on the good side though it does handle nicely.
boxter:
its a pov porche, but its a PORCHE not a honda
decent power..fairly meh though.
quite a nice package, and the new ones look great
z4:
z4 is a great car, but 3l upwards i think just a really good car.

id say the boxter but if you got the best z4 then that one. i think you should add a 350z to that list, they're a really great car, a bloke on this forum has a twin turbo convertible, nice car.
btw what is this shit about dirty fuel tank and z4's with bad gearbox's provide solid evidence of this before commenting, im betting its just some crap you conjured up in your head. aside from that, its probably gogin to be under warranty.

Yeah your really knowledgable bagging the most powerful NA 2.0ltr motor in the world and one of the best cars hondas ever built. Do you know the concept behind the Vtec? from what you are trying to say, Newb it seems like you dont. Your comparing straight line performance and thats not what Honda is all about. If they were then they would just bolt on turbo chargers on everything and it will kill everything on the road.

The old 911s before the 996 would bite you in the ass as they would spin when you lost rear traction. That's why they made the boxster. The MR layout is more forgivable to drive. You know that MR spins easily when you lose it, it's even worse with RR. So imagine the old pre-996 model 911.

Oh, and it's cheaper.

My point is that Porsche's are n=known for there quality etc. Hand crafted and Porsche engineered.

The Old 911 where almost entirely made by Porsche. where as the new Porsche out source there parts etc. and has completely sold out in the boxers as they are like 15% made by Porsche...

If the 987 model Boxster shares 30% of parts with the 997 model 911, then how the hell can the Boxster be only 15%?

BTW, you must be dreaming about who makes parts, Porsche doesn't make 100% or even 80% of the parts that go into an old or new Porsche. The drive belts are 3rd party, the AC are third party and the rotors are 3rd party. The suspension is made by Bilstein and HECK, the damn transmission is Aisin (Japanese!).

EL_DC5
22-10-2007, 02:16 PM
It was an article on a Magazine I read im sure it was motor,

Said something in the lines of the 997 being 65% porsche and the boxster being 15% and the Boxster S alittle higher. But it was over a year ago, it could be 35% not 15 but its Just a sort of rating that they give. It may be that the out sourced parts are better than the one manufactured by Porsche ...

If the 987 model Boxster shares 30% of parts with the 997 model 911, then how the hell can the Boxster be only 15%?

It is economically unfeasible for a car manufacture to manufacture close to 100% of their own parts. Think about it, imagine the number of different engineers that they would have to hire and how many additional separate factories they would require. They would have to be located in different locations some processes like brake rotor casting can't be near another section which does temperature sensitive assembly/components.

The only company that does all their own manufacturing is Ferrari, and they have the appropriate price tag to accompany that.

People in UK pay a lot more taxes for cars which generate high levels of CO2. That means high capacity engines are taxed higher. Also, many of the average rich man/woman who owns a Porsche wouldn't waste their time on a Top Gear survey.

Do you know if the survey rank is calculated based on # of votes or based on # of votes of happy owners vs total # of owners with that particular car?

i think it was votes on how happy they are with the car or unhappy. So they sent in what they liked about it and what they didn't. S2000 has been number one in there survey for two years straight. Top gear is the UK top rating show so im sure there are wide variety of people that vote

Straight away the BMW is out (no particular reason).

My choise would be between the S2000 and the boxter.

Personally I'd go for the Boxter becase it is a Porsche after all. The S2000 may be more powerful (correct me if i'm wrong) but think of it this way. The honda is the top model, while the boxter is the lowest model and yet its abilities are almost equivalent. Also, haven't you always wanted to drive a German sports car? And finally as u said, it's more stylish.

But on another aspect, the porsche would cost a lot more to run.

Looks, interior, handling and also "wow factor". My housemate has an NB MX-5 and it's pretty low-key. It is easy to drive though.
