hey guys, i have a dc5 base which i upgraded from a vti-r ek9.
issert me or that in the dc5 i can bearly hear the vtec when its engages, i know that thers no specific point where vtec kick in but i still expect a loud RAW which i can bearly hear. in my old civic i can clearly hear it.
what can i do to make the i-vtec engagement more clear?
thanks.

essentially, you want vtec without the intelligence. as far as i know, the i part uses the vtec when you need it as well as above 5000rpm so its more useful, but it should be smoother than the old school vtec. you could get 4-1 extractors, intake and exhaust so its more noticeable when you're on vtec, or you could do a diy mod for a 'its on vtec yo!' sign to light up in your car when its on vtec (details were in autosalon a while ago)

No, K-series i-VTEC still has the VTEC crossover point at one particular RPM. But his being a DC5 base model, he has only VTEC on the intake cam. So his engine is like a D-series VTEC, made for fuel economy.

Nope, DC5R has i-VTEC, not the same as VTEC
i-VTEC is a mix of VTEC + VTC just like VVTL-i is for Toyota

Not really. i-VTEC has VTC. That's the only difference. VTEC still engages at 1 RPM point in a K-series.

For the FD1/R18a, I realise the i-vtec is for fuel economy... but is there any way for me to know when i-vtec has 'kicked' in? It'd be nice to see when it kicks in so that you can adjust your driving style for economy.
Anybody know of a i-vtec indicator? Not essential, but it would be really nice to know when you are sipping on fuel.
I know someone (JaCe?) started a thread a while back with the same query... but no-one actually helped... and that was mid 06.. so perhaps someone might know now.
