Hello my fellow Honda Fan-Boys and Girls...

I've been a visitor here for a fair while now and only when I read the thread about getting cheap new car purchase prices and tips on how to get the best price did I decide to sign-up and clarify some issues.

I have recently begun a sales position at Rick Damelian Honda in Sydney (Leichhardt) and have learnt that buyers tend to constantly shop different dealers in the hope of a 'better deal'.

As a once new car buyer myself, I thought if I got the 'best price' from one dealership and took it to the next dealership and ask if he can do better (and vice versa, so on and so forth) I can get a HUGE discount.

This my friends is simply NOT TRUE. Every dealership buy cars from Honda Australia at a fixed cost and place margins on the vehicle to make profit.

For example, the thread I read on this site is about the JAZZ. There is about $1500 profit on the current Honda Jazz. Now some people have claimed to have received discounts upwards of $3000 discount for a new Jazz.

IMPOSSIBLE.

Unless you have added in certain accessories which in themselves have profits built into them, you simple could NOT get any more than $1500 discount on a JAZZ, no matter how many dealerships you goto.

Sometimes if you REALLY catch the dealership at the right time and you throw the "I got offered a JAZZ for $1500 cheaper, what can you do?" line at a dealer, they may take another $100 - $200 off for the sake of earning your business and improve their reporting numbers. Here they are making a LOSS on the vehicle and this is rarely done unless that dealership is rather desperate on making numbers.

So the next time you buy a new car and feel the need to visit every dealership in your city twice over before putting a deposit down, don't waste your time and petrol. Chances are you may walk away from a dealership at their vulnerable time who offered you the best price on a vehicle (and keep in mind every dealership's BEST PRICE is the same, the question is if they are willing to sell it to you at that price), with the thought of getting a better price elsewhere, but once you have returned we as salepeople know you could not receive a better price that what we have offered, therefore we are now in a position to raise the price a little as you have now been around the world and back to where you have started (and rather tired and frustrated already as well, so now you're the one who is vulnerable).

Does this make sense?

Take it from me ladies and gentlemen, from an INSIDER, buy your cars from a large, respectable dealership who can not only offer you good prices and realistic stock arrivals, but good after-sale service AND prolonged vehicle service (service department) as well.

Nice advertising ;)

But considering most of the members on Ozhonda are tightasses, they would most probably never buy new.

If I was someone who was comfortable to use coarse language I'd use it now...

to quote you:
"Rick Damelian Honda is the largest Honda dealership in Australia,"

I am so sick of hearing every dealer (except one) make that claim!! I don't give a crap about how big your penis is... so i don't give a crap how 'big' the dealership is... all the same... same damn thing with toyota... smaller dealerships could offer you the same damn deal.

[Goes crazy]

And bullcrap propaganda about how good their overpriced cars are... a salesmen sat me down and basically read me some rubish straight out of a phamphlet... for like 5 minutes... gee thanks.. I read that already.. thanks for reading to me... my parents never did that for me. Sif I give a crap that their cars won awards from the 70s to 90s... I'm buying a new car fool!!

[sorry guys.. i think i'm done with my rant]

IMO most dealers are full of crap.

Good day!

Dear Mark,

You are absolutely right. All dealership do banter around that they are the biggest dealership and if you have bothered to read my initial post a tad bit more thoroughly I did quote that all dealerships buy the car for the same price from the same source: Honda Australia.

The difference with a big dealership is that:

1. We have a larger stock range as our orders are higher

2. In a situation where no dealership has a particular vehicle in-stock, a larger dealership will have a earlier stock arrival

3. Because a larger dealership can spread the profit/loss over a higher volume of cars, when push comes to shove we can go under profit to earn the business.

I understand your frustration and indeed the automotive industry is full of deceit, lies and empty promises. Hence the reason why I wanted to clarify the issue.

"if you have bothered to read my initial post a tad bit more thoroughly I did quote that all dealerships buy the car for the same price from the same source: Honda Australia."

Yes I did read that and no my response hasn't been effected by that statement.

The fact that this large dealership has invested alot of money into these facilities (gym/cafe/whatnot) tells me someone is making a big fat profit. If smaller dealers pay the same price for the car as I DID READ (and I knew that already), then surely they can at the very least match that price as they don't tend to 'invest' money into such extra facilities.

"indeed the automotive industry is full of deceit, lies and empty promises"

As is every other industry.
