Hello my fellow Honda Fan-Boys and Girls...
I've been a visitor here for a fair while now and only when I read the thread about getting cheap new car purchase prices and tips on how to get the best price did I decide to sign-up and clarify some issues.
I have recently begun a sales position at Rick Damelian Honda in Sydney (Leichhardt) and have learnt that buyers tend to constantly shop different dealers in the hope of a 'better deal'.
As a once new car buyer myself, I thought if I got the 'best price' from one dealership and took it to the next dealership and ask if he can do better (and vice versa, so on and so forth) I can get a HUGE discount.
This my friends is simply NOT TRUE. Every dealership buy cars from Honda Australia at a fixed cost and place margins on the vehicle to make profit.
For example, the thread I read on this site is about the JAZZ. There is about $1500 profit on the current Honda Jazz. Now some people have claimed to have received discounts upwards of $3000 discount for a new Jazz.
IMPOSSIBLE.
Unless you have added in certain accessories which in themselves have profits built into them, you simple could NOT get any more than $1500 discount on a JAZZ, no matter how many dealerships you goto.
Sometimes if you REALLY catch the dealership at the right time and you throw the "I got offered a JAZZ for $1500 cheaper, what can you do?" line at a dealer, they may take another $100 - $200 off for the sake of earning your business and improve their reporting numbers. Here they are making a LOSS on the vehicle and this is rarely done unless that dealership is rather desperate on making numbers.
So the next time you buy a new car and feel the need to visit every dealership in your city twice over before putting a deposit down, don't waste your time and petrol. Chances are you may walk away from a dealership at their vulnerable time who offered you the best price on a vehicle (and keep in mind every dealership's BEST PRICE is the same, the question is if they are willing to sell it to you at that price), with the thought of getting a better price elsewhere, but once you have returned we as salepeople know you could not receive a better price that what we have offered, therefore we are now in a position to raise the price a little as you have now been around the world and back to where you have started (and rather tired and frustrated already as well, so now you're the one who is vulnerable).
Does this make sense?
Take it from me ladies and gentlemen, from an INSIDER, buy your cars from a large, respectable dealership who can not only offer you good prices and realistic stock arrivals, but good after-sale service AND prolonged vehicle service (service department) as well.

Rick Damelian Honda is the largest Honda dealership in Australia, with monthly sales of approximately 250 new cars.
