there's my car, im going too smoke the tail lights and the front lights as you see are type R, and the side indicators ive smoked to.

i wanna go for a "dark" look on the car, im also aiming for black interior

as you can see my rims are hideous-chrome. im probably going to get them sand blasted/repainted but im considering a colour:
- gunmetal grey?
- matt black?
- gloss black?

suggestions please!

hrmmz mayb a good photoshop would be a good way of deciding, anyone please do a photoshop of the rims on his car ? like a few pics, 1 with gunmetal grey, one with gloss and one with matte black .. and mayb a few other shades of different "blacks" ? this would probably help not only him but also myself and possibly a few other civic owners.

added pics, gonna prob smoke the tail lights when i get the chance.

i am considering a gloss black with a red lip, but not sure how it'd look on these rims because there isnt really much of an "inner dish" lip, it just borders outside and that'd look gay. also theres some chips in the rims i have to bodyfill when i get the chance.
id much rather colour the rims myself than sell them, just for the sake of doing the job myself.

i dont know if they're proper momo extremes's, they came with the car. afaik proper momo extreme's are 5 stud, these are 4 stud + somehow the guy got a honda centre cap (looks great!)

will try to photoshop later if i can...

afaik proper momo extreme's are 5 stud,
not ture. i had a set of 18" momo extremes for my astina in the late '90s. they were 4 studs. they came both 4 and 5 studs.

I had a feeling these where old school rims, the guy that bought the car in '98 spent a lot of money on it (brand new from dealer, serviced there up until a few years ago). And it looks like he bought one of the first CD players out on the market, in saying that. Someone probably did have it done up and took their shit out and put whatever the car came with at first on it.

personally. i'd just sell them off and get sumthing smaller (perhaps its cheaper too!) tat is already black or darker colour tat u're after.

u might actually save urself some $ tat way. & might look better wth new set of rims.

darker/black rims are more 'sporty' look. ur current rims in black might b a lil weird?

u kidding, i wont even get $300 for my rims they're crap, nobody buys chromies. i might as well just go sand it back and repair some of the chips myself and colour it black

if you have you mind set on dark personally i would go for the black gloss or gunmetal grey... it would look sick!

so too ultimatley gloss my rims, id basically need a light grey primer, gloss black (several coats) + a few clear coat layers too really make nice n shiny?

First off, chrome is the uggliest shit out...

man my limit is about $500-$600 to get some 17" average condition rims, i dont mind if its been dinted a bit but nobodys willing too let go of the type of rims im after (spoked, 5-8 star spoked) rims for that much

Samm928
01-10-2007, 11:57 PM
LOL, i got spoked 8 =P im getting red H decals in the middle of the rims. LOL OH SNAP i would sell to you but not for that less. LOL soz. =)

id rather do my rims black, and see how they turn out. my mate spent $2k on brand new rims 17" lightweight racing, they look ****ing great but id have a benchmark.. i mean ill prob chuck em out once the rubbers worn out anyway :) might as well

UPDATE So i did the rims finally with some $3 matt black spray paint, did a half assed job to see how black would look:
prepp'ed the surface with 80 grit sand paper (not coarse enough). cleaned it several times over with spray bottle + warm detergent and turps. didnt bother sanding between coats (you should, adhere's better)

prepped + light coat of black spray paint:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/casmira/Photo-0244.jpg
5-6 coats later: should of used a dark grey primer =/:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/casmira/Photo-0246.jpg
on the car, looks ok. bit boring imo.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/casmira/Photo-0248.jpg
black vs chrome.
i think "metallic charcoal" is the way 2 go :) picked some of that up + grey primer + 60 grit sand paper. for anyone doing rims, too get your primer/paint to stick on nicely you're gonna need some coarse as hell sandpaper.

hmm i dont think those style wheels suit the matt black look.. i think you sohuld stick to chrome or shadowchrome gray? but thats just my opinion

steve88
21-10-2007, 04:51 PM
i got "metallic charcoal" that basically is gunmetal grey, not AS dark though, its a hint lighter. but its very metallic. i think matt just doesn't go with my car. the chromies are too shiny, and matt is too boring unless i had spoked rims imo.

Good work mate. Not my kinda thing though... for some reason, it comes off looking like steel wheels when I first saw the pic above.

Just thought I'd add. Went for the black look too lol. The rims had gutter damage so got sanding & used de-greaser to clean. Colour: Gloss Matte Black

Advice: Don't spray the primer near another car, I left grey specs on my sisters baleno, anyone know how to get that off the paintwork?

thats because its black, you guys haven't seen it metallic charcoal + polished ;) was polishing it yesterday but flakes came off ( = dodgy paint job ) so i took it back to bare metal, primer, and will polish it again tonight hopefully lol

I decided to do much thicker coats, i always did many coats, very thin because i was afraid of runs then spend half an hour polishing & buffing it. But this time I spent about 2-3 hours prepping my rim properly with 40 grit, 80, primed, then sanded again with 180, primed again then applied a nice thick layer of mettalic grey that came out sex :)

Here we go ladies ;)
