Again, you can purchase these within Australia. I have done so from this seller and received a genuine, quality (not Chinese) XCarlink. I purchased the ipod version. I suggest you contact them and save yourself the time and hassle of getting one from overseas.

Hi guys,
I received the Xcarlink today and I'm installing it as we speak.
I've been using this video for assistance which has been terrific:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xm8b4WXCmQ

One problem is that every has been removed and I now need to plug in the Xcarlink itself but cant find where to plug it into?!
The video shows an area that my 05 Accord Euro Lux does have does anyone have any idea?!
I'll upload pics of the connector end of the Xcarlink I have to see if i may have been sent the wrong one, thanks for your help.

this is my connection:

and this is the socket it needs to be plugged into:
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/dbelli/P2190651-1.jpg

I recon they have sent the wrong one for sure, I've been looking at the TSX forums and their connection fits perfectly into that white input you can see in the above picture.
can anyone verify?
thanks guys

I am too looking to get a carlink for my iphone4.

I also have a nokia ck-7w bluetooth car kit fitted.

Will they both work together? So, if i'm listening to my iphone through the xcarlink, and i receive a call - Will it go through the nokia ck7w bluetooth kit?

Thanks all,

You can buy xcarlink from Sydney Installers, either via Ebay or direct from their website http://www.sydneyinstallers.com.au/

I have just picked one up for 2008 luxury navi

Having trouble finding info on the net as to how to correctly access the rear of the stereo to plug this thing in (i.e. how do I dismantle the dash correctly). Has anyone installed in the latest shape Euro? Most info on how to remove the trim relates to the 2002 - 2007/8 shape.

I have the xcarlink and got it from sydneycarinstallers.com.au 2 weeks ago - all I can say is it's fantastic... and it allows me to control my ipod touch 2G through the steering wheel controls. I had them install it for $75, they had it done within 10 mins.

PS: i don't work for them, I just think service was great and xcarlink works as advertised. I've recommended it to all my friends.

Fitted the xcarlink to my euro.

It's fantastic! Great sound quality and you can listen to all your playlist music. One of my playlists has 180 songs and the honda unit can play them all.
Simple to install. Now just trying to figure out where to put a mounting point for my iphone 4 in the car... I'm thinking of fitting a phone holder inside the accessories compartment.
Works with my nokia ck-7w bluetooth unit which is also a bonus.

Whaere has everybody else mounted there phone/ipod in there car?

I can live with that, might be you have a slow USB/SD card? I primarily wanted it for the 3.5mm audio jack plug to connect to my Tomtom which has 16GB of MP3s on it and the FM radio approach isn't working well in this car. The SD/USB is a bonus, and possibly the USB might power my Tomtom too. Then I can hide the whole lot away in the cubby box thing under the head unit (Accord Euro) with just the screen showing, should be pretty neat.

That image showing how to remove the vent is wrong. If you look inside the vent, on the side at the bottom there are slots where you can insert a flathead screwdriver to pull the trim out without damaging the surrounding plastic.

I bought a windscreen mount from Ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Windscreen-Car-Mount-Holder-Apple-iPhone-4-3G-3GS-/150507569805?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item230af3428d

To mount it, it's a bit ghetto, The suction cap would not hold well against the plastic. So, I layered double sided tape on the suction cap, and stuck it to the rear of the accessory compartment.

Has been mounted for 3 weeks with no issue.

By the way, the Xcarlink is fantastic! Works great with the factory stero!

I'd suggest reading the rest of this thread for more information on installation.
To answer your question, yes they are both compatible with our Accord Euros.
The first reads in from iPod connector and 3.5mm auxiliary input, the second reads USB, SD card and 3.5mm auxiliary input.

Well I finally got the thing in the mail. Installed it and ran into a problem. Plugging in an iPod allows it to charge, however the display on the screen just says "CDC 8-99". Vavoom
02-11-2010, 06:05 PM
Yeah I tried pressing every button but nothing worked.
For some weird reason, when I disassembled everything to recheck the plug, I plugged in my iPod Video and miraculously, it started working. I could press Disc + - and pressing up and down on the steering wheel would change playlists and the number on the radio display would change. It was short lived however and after disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod, the display was stuck on CDC 8-99 again.
I have no idea what I did right/wrong but I'm thinking I'll just live with it. Don't mind using it for just the 3.5mm input.

Looks pretty solid. So hows the sound quality for it though? I've read about hissing noise for some people on the Xcarlink..

I've had one of these $90 eBay alternatives in my '04 Accord Euro for a couple of weeks now (eg this one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220691823358) from sonia831109 (http://myworld.ebay.com.au/sonia831109/)). I'm very happy with it, the audio is excellent quality. No hissing, good bass, etc -but I'm no audiophile.

When plugged in it simulates being a CD changer so you can control it from the head unit by selecting CDC. Playing from an SD card, CD1 is the root directory & CD2/3/4/etc are the first 8 subdirectories it finds. I think you can have 99 songs in each directory. The 9 CD, 99 song per CD limitation is on the part of the head unit's display capabilities. The most I've had is maybe 60 songs in one directory which worked OK. Swapping from song to song, cd to cd is near instantaneous, certainly faster than a regular CD, so I don't see that delay issue someone reported earlier. It has memory, so next time you start it up it carries on from where it left off.

Plugging my phone in to the line in jack (and pressing "RPT" on the head unit so I can hear it) also gave excellent quality. It's great to be able to listen to podcasts & internet radio while driving. :)

My main purpose of getting it was to use it to connect up my Tomtom. I have the audio connected and also the USB just to power the Tomtom. Unfortunately the 5v coming out of the units USB socket isn't clean as it could be so when I do use it to power the Tomtom while listening to audio there is a noticeable whine (which I don't get if I unplug the 5v). I am going to try building some sort of filter (I'm an electronics engineer), make a separate clean 5v feed or as a last resort go back to using the cigarette lighter.

Lastly the quality of the build is fine, pretty good for something from China bought on eBay. Fitting it was easy as any other. I notice Honda haven't left much clearance around the connector on their head unit, so you have to make sure the cable is folded out the way pretty tightly. I put the unit in the glove box as I didn't want to drill any holes anywhere, and this works well for me.

Actually ... I have a couple of xcarlink questions that need answering.

With the Accord Sat Nav model .... you don't have the buttons 1-5 below the stereo to scroll through the xcarlink folders. How do you do this on the Sat Nav Model ?

Also, how does the unit present info when you have a SD card & USB stick plugged in at the same time ? Does it read both at the same time or what ?

Im about to attempt installation on my 07 sat nav, will let everyone know of any gotchas that i find

ok so its all installed now, working good. i followed this tutorial:

http://www.civinfo.com/wiki/index.php?title=Install_Xcarlink_in_2007_Accord

only thing is, i only reconnected 4 plugs into my dvd, couldnt find the fifth, and cant remember if i even disconnected a fifth.

only issue after install aswell is the fuel usage thing jumps .3 every 5 or so seconds when the car is at stand still? Anyone know if this is at all related to the xcarlink install i.e. me unplugging or messing around with something that i shouldnt be?

apart from that, it works a treat and am very happy with it.

Guys, I am after this cable to use my iphone 4 in my accord euro 2004.

Where can I buy this xcarlink cable or similar from? I have been to www.xcarlink.com.au and it seems to be broken link

I've got the same setup (04 euro + iphone4) and just bought a Dice unit for my car, and very happy with it. Cost me about $170 landed from ebay. It allows you to flick through songs with your steering wheel buttons and headunit, or by controlling it directly on the iphone at the same time. You don't have to muck around with playlists or anything. The unit has further navigation capabilities if connected to later model headunits that support text etc, but in the 04 euro it's a bit more limited. Never tried the x carlink, but would recommend the Dice unit from my recent experiences.

if you're looking for the xcarlink, i purchased mine from ebay from this (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XCarlink-iPod-iPhone-interface-Mazda-Honda-Toyota-VW-/280655739501?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415862ba6d#ht_6216wt_1141) seller. They also have a bluetooth unit that plugs into the xcarlink unit. Pauses music and plays conversation through car audio, comes with a mic too.

i've got an old ipod nano plugged into my 05, works with iphone 3/4. i have a light hiss, only audible when volume is at 0.

You can navigate the playlist with numbers 5 and 6 on the radio preset/disc stacker numbers. As well as steering wheel controls press to skip track and hold down to scrub songs.

Ordered my chinese xcarlink a week ago, it came in the mail on Tuesday and after fiddling with my car, I got my head unit to say "CDC-5 14" and then "CDC-8 99". With no reply from the supplier I sent it back to the return address for replacement yesterday. This morning, I wake up with an apologetic email from the seller and a message that they have moved buildings since last week and I have sent my xcarlink to the wrong address >.<

If and when I get a replacement unit back I plan to make a bit of a DIY project of it, rather like another user in this thread. Since the unit itself is ugly and bulky and I'd have to cut a big hole somewhere in my dash to fit cables etc, I'm going to try and mount a USB port and AUX in plug in the centre console instead which will look much cleaner.

People have already done it on the net, apparently the hardest part is finding the plugs to use! Looking forward to trying it though, it'll be my first time modding a car (if you can call it that) and it'll look sweet when it's done :D

I ordered a Honda iPod, USB & Bluetooth Car Kit (U3i-HON1/MBUS) from cushieaudio.com.au on Wednesday and got it today (Friday). Cost a total of $175 including shipping (but I didn't buy the handfree mic, would of cost another $50)

Managed to take my car front apart, losing 2 screws in the process (non-magnetized shiet), clicked right in nice and easy, tested it with my iPhone 4 and it sounds great. Only problem is I don't have a drill so I can't drill a hole to put the cable through so I can't put my car back together again!

Plays all my music and youtube, has a USB input also, but I haven't tested it out yet.

If the cord is long enough then you can do what i did and make it go to the glove box. It's easy to do the passengers side has a little panel that comes off and can feed the cable up to the glove box. I have no cable running anywhere that can be seen besides in the glove box

I'm so tempted to buy one of these, but I'm always so clumsly when doing things myself, I fear I'll crack or break a panel in the process.

CDC 5 - 14 : AUX
CDC 8 - 99 : Loading USB

If you put a USB key in and it keeps switching from CDC 5 - 14 to CDC 8 - 99 repeatedly without playing then it is most likely due to the storage capacity of your USB key. I had this problem with my one when using a 4GB USB key, but when i try a 2GB one it plays without a problem everytime.

I'm annoyed if that is the reason as I had to pay to send the xcarlink back =/ Why would a larger USB screw it up? That doesn't make sense...besides where can you buy a 2GB USB stick these days, they're obsolete! haha

No thats all the info I could conclude from my experience with it so far.

Its normal for these devices to support only certain capacities, you can't imagine you can just plug in a 1TB portable hard drive and it would work. But i agree 2GB is pretty tiny but oh well better than having to keep burning non-mp3 CDs :)

Ive had the x carlink and it worked like a charm,

terms for installation, do it through the glove box it looks much neater and it can read any USB, you just gotta make folders for it to read.

e.g. CD01 - CD10

you gotta name your folders CD(insert number 01 - 10)

it can only have up to 10 folders with 99 songs in each.

if you dont do that chances of it reading your USB = 20%.

once installed and have made folders for songs it should read CDC01 - 14 so CD01(folder) - track 14 etc.

ive now taken out my x car link as in stalled a double din headunit so its up for sale. just PM me for price. (postage is pick up only)

- guys at sydney installers are having it at $145.50,
- xcarlink in the uk selling it at 137.90

Im guessing, just grab it from the sydney installers? or is there a cheaper place. Cheers

I don't think they are answering emails either, they've gone totally off the radar as far as I know....

If you don't care about brand names, the Chinese ones are cheaper. You might get a dud but the returns are straightforward and you can bargain down the price to further take advantage of the strong AUD.

It can. As for bluetooth im not sure but there are chinese models that have bluetooth connectivity.

You don't need someone to install it for you. I'd never done it before, I just watched an instructional vid on youtube and took my time and was 100% successful. All you need is a few screwdrivers to access the head unit then whatever attaching tools you want.

So with the install, did you guys end up cutting into the center console?

I found the easiest and cleanest way of doing it is mounting it to the front center console (below the head unit). You don't need to cut anything, you can basically run the wire from the top of the box (behind the lid) and mount the unit to the side of the center console so you can still actually use it (it is a massive center console :)). Ill try to post some pics tonight.

If you want to be super clean and you have the tools at home, get panel mounts for your AUX and USB. I got mine for quite a reasonable price from http://www.frontx.com/store/order_p.html

The dimensions of the mounts are available on the website so you can make your holes fit and line up exactly. Then hide the unit itself with the wires behind the console. More space and looks nice and professional too :)

In general? It could be the quality of the mp3s you are playing. Otherwise you can expect that as AUX IN generally has a more amplified signal if you are playing from an mp3 player or iPod whereas the xcarlink might not amplify the audio as much when decoding your music.

any tips on how i can amplify the usb?

chuboy

You will have to amplify the mp3 files themselves using a program such as Audacity since the xcarlink unit will probably have some constant amount of amplification (if it wasn't constant amplification then there would be some variable resistor i.e. volume knob somewhere for you to adjust).

No probs, just do it carefully. Careless editing and amplification can result in bad sounding mp3s.

Foolproof method is to start with CD quality. But do some research on bit-rates, bandwidth etc. Small mp3 files by nature do not allow wide variances in volume so the loud bits are reduced and the soft bits are increased. It's all a trade-off. But if you have lots of USBs, who cares how big your mp3 files are?

No. You do not have to remove the headunit itself, you just need to remove the centre console below it and then you will be able to see the CV changer plug where you need to plug your xcarlink on the bottom of the headunit and you can easily reach it without removing the headunit itself.

I find mounting the xcarlink in the centre console below the headunit its much easier than the glovebox but you can try any other location really as long as your wire is long enough - be inovative :)

chuboy
08-08-2011, 04:11 PM
+1, the centre console is a hassle free place to put it. If you feel up to the task, grab some panel mount plugs off the net, drill some holes in the side of the centre console and run the usb and aux in plugs through the console wall, hiding the unit itself underneath.

That's what I did, hardest part was drilling neat holes as the console wall is about 5mm thick!

Looks very tidy now though

Not sure about what model you have, but I have a CL9. My Xcarlink is non bluetooth or USB (actually didn't pay attention to if it had USB or not, got it for the ipod). I ended up placing mine below the center compartment. The cables that came with it were very long anyway, and there's plenty of space below the center compartment, especially since mine's a manual, all there is really is a gear box shaft. Ran my cables through to glovebox via a small gap between panels. (Originally was going to have them go through top of center compartment lid, but the Ipod cable was too thick so the lid wouldn't go up all the way).

xiang
15-03-2012, 06:22 PM
Bluetooth Kit plugs into the same side as the iPod or usb cable.

I installed mine under the radio, to the right of the middle compartment. Fits nice and snug.

FIRST, I installed the bluetooth under my steering wheel on the underside of the dash, then fed the cables out of both ends. One back into the middle compartment, and the mic up the a-pillar. Really neat install, only the mic is visible.

PS, you can hide the bluetooth unit. You can answer/end calls via the next song button.

daKIK
15-03-2012, 08:11 PM
Sweet, jst had a look and pretty sure the bluetooth kit will sit well just above the steering wheel
So from what I understand, you actually didnt install ur kit in the middle compartment, but above it just under the radio (so its actually hidden?) and u ran a usb or aux extension cable?

xiang
16-03-2012, 08:16 AM
There's two units, the XCarLink Unit which handles your usb or ipod is sitting in the behind the middle compartment (hidden). The bluetooth kit plugs into this main unit, and i've installed and hidden the Bluetooth Unit under the steering wheel.

Didnt have to run any extension cables. All cables provided are quite lengthy. Beware when purchasing the ipod option. The connecter is prone to shitting itself (audio out of one side), so be gentle when handling the connector. I bought mine off the dude on ebay. Had a bad experience where he was ignoring my calls about this problem. Finally got him on a private number.

ChaosMaster
17-03-2012, 04:47 PM
Just to add; I've also got a bluetooth kit I installed myself. Also purchased from the guys I got my Xcarlink from (Sydney Installers), but it's the patriot unit with a separate LCD screen and buttons. http://sydneyinstallers.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=32
I've actually hid the bluetooth unit below the steering column, where my right leg is, near the bonnet release. Found it easier to put it there. Having said that, I have removed the top cover of the centre console (the part right on the centre of the dash) to aid my connecting of wires for the unit, and have found ample room there, enough to place a unit there. So it's really up to you where you want to place it.

I did take a photo but a bad one, you can still kinda see the room available.

I was installing the xcarlink unit today and all was going great, connected the white adapted to the bottom of the stereo unit as per instructions.
I came to try it and it wouldnt work. It doesnt seem to be recognised by the stereo system, cause when I press the CD/AUX buttom a second time nothing happens and it stays on CD
I connected a USB stick and tried again and still the same (the usb would light up when first plugged in and then nothing), the bluetooth headset was also blinking when connected to the xcarlink. Also tried disconnecting and connecting the plug a few times without any success! So im pretty frustrated right now

This time when I press the CD button it just stays on radio!

Hmm, weird. I dont ever listen to CD's and i can press the CD/AUX button and it will switch to CD and let me listen to my iPod.
Maybe send the unit back incase it might be faulty?

Yeah, prob faulty unit. Send it back to w/e you got it from. They may have some troubleshooting options that might aid you.

before you send it back, try using a smaller sized(memory size) usb, 2gb maybe?

I was using a 2GB stick, i also tried playing songs from my phone into the 3.5mm headjack and still nothing, its just not being picked up at all
Im guessing its a faulty unit, spoke to the seller and he said to send it back.
Its just a hassle!

It was a faulty unit!
Ended up buying another one from sydney installers and I just installed it after work, it worked great! Also fitted the bluetooth kit without any dramas..
The other faulty unit will be going back overseas for a refund.
Thanks for the help guys

Got my xcarlink from sydney installers last week, installed the box inside the compartment under the head unit. Routed the iPod cable to come out of the ashtray compartment so looks very tidy, only had to drill two small holes for cables, one in each compartment. Xcarlink works well but at first I couldn't change songs from my iPhone as it was stuck in "accessory connected mode". Once I changed tracks using a third party music app I can now change songs using the standard music app and car controls still work. I didn't see any mention of this in the xcarlink manual if anyone else is wondering how to get out of "accessory connected" mode.

Are you guys talking about this?

Is the Bluetooth included or do i have to buy that extra unit for $89?

Hey guys, sorry to go thread digging.

Are there any tips or tricks for installing the xcarlink unit on an 06 euro with satnav. I've looked at the guide and it seems fairly straight forward, just a few questions...

Is the 6 stacker plug still on the back of my satnav unit, some websites say it won't have it because its already a 6 stacker?
Is there anything plugged into the required port that I would need an adapter for such as a Y-piece?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I have a question.
I've had a weird issue pop up with the xcarlink/iPhone, since I installed it about 8 months ago it's been working fine, but only over the last few days the music/iPod app shows "accessory connected" and I cannot access my playlists or change my music, the music still plays and I can change the music with the controls on the steering wheels but it's only playing a weird random selection of about 25 songs only.

Anyone else had this? Or know a way to fix it so it goes back to an accessible iPod music app?
Thanks.

What does your cd player screen say, mine will go to 'accessory connected' if its anything other than CDC 1-01. Then I have to control it using the radio and steers wheel controls. If it shows CDC 1-01 the iPhone can change tracks too.

ill have to check, but i do know that the CDC 0X-### - the "#" numbers do change now with each song change, where as when i could control from my iPod that did not change, i think i recall it being CDC 01-099 when i had my iPhone plugged in and fully controlling music selection from my iPhone. its just strange that all of a sudden it wants to say "accessory connected" I'm not sure whats changed....

so if what your saying Minimikee is correct and the CDC screen is incorrect, is there a way to alter it?

some more information regarding the CDC numbers:
When i click from am/fm to the CD/AUX, it says CDC 4-05.
when i plug in my iphone is quick flashes CDC 8-99 but then goes to CDC 7-01. when i change songs it will go to CDC 7-02, 03 etc.
the weird thing is it only goes up to CDC 7-62, and the same 62 songs always play? the songs played arent from a play list the only logical thing it does is play them alphabetically from the artist name. the songs selected other than that are completely random.

And as ive said above this has only started over the last post, it worked fine without the accessory connected for the previous 8 months since i bought the xcarlink module.
anyone have any ideas!?!?!?

I had that when I first bought my xcarlink. Try playing music through a 3rd party app (CarTunes or anything like that). Once I started doing that it seemed to switch over to letting me use the regular Music app.

Hi all - sorry to drag this out of the depths of thread-ville....but how is the Xcarlink working out long term, those of you who installed it a few years ago (assuming you still have the car ?) is the thing still ticking along ?
Some update, issues etc would be good, screen codes update as these seem to be handy to see whats going on and the button sequences of pressing what, when functioning.
Other brands worth noting ? or to consider ?? Did see many with the Blue Tooth option, does this work OK, how do you link to the thing ? same as any BT device ?
Any & all reports welcomed, about to invest in one of these things for my 2007 CM2.

I found the Xcarlink to be great for the first 3 months, then it started to fault, after 6 months it's about 50% operational. Tried to get help from from Sydney Car Installers and got a replacement unit, this did the same faulting in shorter time, contacted them and have no reply to several emails, bull shit service and to be frank, bull shit product, steer clear of XCarlink & Sydney Car Installers....

Yeah I have had some dodgy service from him too, no after sales support and frustrating to deal with even before I had given him my money!

Its really easy, all you need to remove is the top vents (slide forward and up) and then remove three screws and pop out the sat nav unit, plug in the xcarlink and put everything back

Regarding installing with the Navi - Well, I have a MY2008 Cl9 (last build run) and I must say this isn't right. (it might be on earlier versions). I had a real pain today trying to find any advice or just try my way though it - but now finally done. (actually just wanted to clean the Nav Lens not install xlink)

Really - you need to follow broadly the same methodology as for the non-nav - However the clips that hold the nav Facia the bottom bit) are chunky as hell and damn hard to remove - they clip into two metal brackets that come down from the bottom of the stereo. Ultimately though its just a case of pulling or leveraging towards you (straight out) to get it out.

Re holding the Nav / stereo unit - In mine it seems there were, in addition to the 3 screws under the airvents 2 screws underneath the unit holding it in - no amount of yanking would have removed it.

Just posting FYI anyone as this was the best thread I could find which at least had some info.
