3 eas to spot ones:

1. Check VIN - JDM starts with EP3-1xxxxxx
2. Center dash design around audio is diff
3. Speedo runs to 180kmh for JDM while UK cars show mph.

Thank alot phillip, going to look at this one today hope its good http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9665797&__Qpb=true&Cr=9&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__No=15&__N=1216%201282%204294965322%204294965250%20395%20 414%20898&silo=1011&PriceTo=414&seot=1&PriceFrom=395&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=40&__sid=12721FA379A1

To see if it's a real FL, on the VIN plate it should say ABA-EP3. Pre FL says LA-EP3.

Thanks alot phil. I went to look at it the car is really nice But it not that great condition. When ever i wanr close the bonnet i have to push the gruppe M down and the owner said that it have to get sand and its the same for every ep3 with gruppe M. apart from that im alrights with it , still havent make my decision yet...

Exact same happens with my Gruppe M. You're able to close it without holding it down but it scrapes it. Definitely has nothing to do with the condition of the car if that's what you're getting at. :p

Needing an opinion from everyone here as I'm thinking of getting in on the TODA group buy.

My options are:

TODA header + welded on TODA cat + TODA catback
TODA header (with no cat) + TODA catback

Or the above variations with a different, cheaper, catback - such as the Skunk2 or RM01A.

Thoughts?

^ only way to deal with the scrubbing from the gruppe m is through cushioning it with thick tape or 3m tape on the bonnet and behind on the replacement scuttle where the top of the intake sits. havent had issues after a good tape down.

Love the rm01a, a great exhaust, felt bottom -mid range pick up combined with gruppe m.

I've replaced the bulbs before. It's a 1.4W but I gotta check for the size. I left my blown bulbs at my mate's place, I'll let you know when I find out.

fixed & upgraded my bulbs to LED's today... T5 I thinks the size is, for future reference.

Induction is good as the OEM ones are prone to split.

shh george ! i thought we agreed we wouldnt mention anything ! doh` ! and CORRECT ! i DID (somebody gots it ! ) have the sfs induction hose, fit perfect and it is more tougher then the stock induction hose. HOWEVER using this sfs induction hose u loose the benefit of clamping the radiator hose to it as u could do with the stock oem induction hose but MEH ! i think i gained 25kws low range from it ??

hey matt, saw your car at JDMST meet on Tuesday but never seen you around your car.

i spotted you have red wheels nuts on your wheels. if you want suitable nuts, just go to any tyre shops. they will be able to fix you up. there is nothing special about the OEM nuts.

OEM nuts usually have diff design to aftermarket nuts. They are not interchangeable as they won't sit and secured properly otherwise.

There was a long discuss thread on this subject on Ozhonda. U can search it if you want the detail.

oem are acorn style ( rounded bottom ) - and generally only suit steelies or OEM rims. Some aftermarket rims DO have this rounded seating.....but most are TAPERED ( 45 degree angle) thats where aftermarket lugnuts come in

Has anyone done valve clearance of the ep3?

I'm curious to find out if the specification from JDM K20A would be any different to the UKDM K20A2 or AUDM K20A2.

While doing valve clearance, anyone think it would be a good idea to change valve stem seals while the rock cover is open??

Well it's the exact same comparison as to what you stated lol.......
Cheap easy job vs more expensive harder job !
Removing the valve cover is a 2 min job. Properly doing your valve guides is easy - just need to wait around 4 hrs for the engine to cool down , pass the feeler thru each lobe , tighten if needed then chuck the cam cover back on and u are away ! Still , it's a job that needs to be done every so often and rarely mechanics will do it.

hi ben, to my knowledge, front brakes are shared with the s2k, rear brakes are shared with the dc5.. they should be the same part number
and the K20A isnt the same as the DC5S from the states... but it depends what parts you were getting, alot of stuff is interchangable between K-series?

If you're gonna use Hipower to do the mods for you, then its best to ask them....

Generally speaking;

Stock: 115-120kwatw

I/H/E: 125-130kwatw

Many brands out therein all three combos, but will all net you similar gains. Not gonna get into a brand battle here about which is best. You'd expect to spend anywhere between $2000-$4000 varying from used/new etc....

I/H/E KPRO/HALTEC: 130-140kwatw

Properly tuned and there is lots to gain mid range. $2000-$2500 depending on dealer/tuner, used/new etc....

CAMS: 140-150kwatw

Again, many brands to choose here. $1500-$3000 fitted. Some will need supporting mods like H/D tensioner, valve springs, retainers etc add $200-$1500 on top.

After this you'd be expecting to open the wallet for a build. Like a stroker kit, K24, turbo or supercharger. Argument is endless so don't start on whats best.

My best advice is work to a budget and with a builder/tuner or you may be very disappointed.

new question!

I love my civic, but was passenger in an integra the other day and loved the feel of it, seats lower, better handling etc, im wondering, can we get custom seat rails? and how much of a distance does coilovers or a decent suspension set up make to the ep3? dc2r/dc5r comparable?

JohnO

Matt rps13 has a ep3 thread which he keeps updating and i recently saw him do a rail swap and it was a good 5cm drop which is pretty lowwwww, its in the introductory forum. The suspension is pretty good i reckon from factory, the dc2r is a rawer car than the 5r/ep, nearly went deaf in my mates dc2r on the hwy and couldnt even hear the radio lol.

no gud brother, the gb oil from motul is alittle too hardcore my suggestion is castrol syntrans i think it was 75w something, running that in mine and its very smooth and quick. however engine oil ive stuck to motul 10w40 300v felt a big difference when i first had that put in compared to the anglomoil 10-40. my $0.02

stienerv2
06-02-2011, 03:01 PM
For the Motul gearbox oil, that grade is fine. Theres not much difference in the 75 or 80 since its only for cold start or winter temperatures. I am using 75w90 motylgear oil and it needs to be warm up a little bit before normal use. You can avoid this with Honda MTF because those motul oils are design for more of a racing use.

5w30 is more suited for sportier cars like ours but you can go for a thicker grade like 10w40 for summer.

skyfrank85
06-02-2011, 03:09 PM
i am more prefer motul 10w 40, as i use it in my b18, happy with it, but not sure should i use 5w40 or not, as car will be daily and will no be use on drag or track. 5w40 is what the book recommend

There's likes 2-3 screws when you take the silver cover off, pull the under handle off and there's 3-4 screws. Once you've gotten that out unclip the bottom first working your way up the sides. Unplug the window switch, push the plastic lock out so you can take the metal cable up.

stock wheels are 7" wide +45, so being 7.5 or 8.5 means the extra width needs to go either inside, outside or a combination of both. this depends on the offset.

8.5 + 50 means 24mm less inside clearance and extended 14mm on the outside. not sure if it will clear the suspension on the inside since the stock front coil spings are huge. you might want it for the back tho.

7.5 + 48 means 9mm less inside and 3mm more outside which isn't a huge improvement over stock.

Sigh

Got an issue with the ep - thought it was a bad swaybar endlink.....replaced both sides today with brand new oem parts. Still does it....

Steering or suspension makes a clunk at different situations. Either sharp turning while stationary , felt thru the floor when hitting bumps and also the clunk is heard in the rhs suspension when turning and hitting a bump.
I believe this issue is directly related to a big pothole hit while in qld a month ago.

Everything is tight - only noticeable thing is that the spring (stock) can be slightly moved in it's perch. shouldn't be able to in my past experiences !

Any thoughts ?

funny that.. my rear drivers side swaybar endlink.. one of the bolts somehow went missing, now the braket kinda just hangs there =/ makes a popping sound when there's more pressure towards the rear drivers side wheel (is. when i go up a drive way or a speed bump) it's only been like that for a day or two.. at first i thought i popped my tyre, lucky i went to get that checked cos there was a nail in my rear drivers side tyre.. but yeah, is it safe to be driving around with the rear sway like that?

Hey mate, the last time I called up for quotes for a windscreen on my previous cars it was:

Obrien's $350
Jim Windscreens $170

Went with Jim's Windscreens. They even came to my house to fit it. :)

Mate the ep3 standard key is a generic dmall honda key. You can buy the blank from honda , then just get it cut at any locksmith. There is no special chip (immobilizer) in the key.
Go to honda and ask for a key blank for a 2002-2005 civic.

when i bought the car gavin gave me spare one that it just looked an ordinary key nothing special and it worked on the car... maybe the locksmith did a shonky job?

Won't start as in the key won't turn??

If it is not turning then the key has not been cut properly as Johno advised.

all good the Locksmith doesn't know how to operate a immobilizer.. i knew it he wouldn't give me the keys until i payed for them so i did got in the car and started it right in front of him..
Ohh Johno! Mate your instructions about getting the door trim off and getting into the Lock was pretty much spot on champ thanks heaps.. 2 screws then one after the handle is off to take the power window switches off then another two to get the inside of the door lose and make may way thru the bottom to take it off.. thanks heaps all sweet now..
as for intakes i thought the Gruppe M was the sh!t so thats why im saving up close to 900 to get one otherwise the injen would be better.. i guess the only ppl that would know is if they've owned both and test them out..

as for Hanny's they don't remap the comp go to Toda or J Racing.. if I get section 10 on march and still have my license i will check em out see what they say about getting some more potential out if the ep3..

btw Ive been seeing more dealers import the ep3.. there's a red and a black one on parra road.. no more black want it kept rare..

try tigthening your lower control arm-to-subframe mounting points - 2 either side. These are supposed to be 98NM each 17mm bolt. I had strange noises on my RHS recently - these two bolts were loose ( literally finger tight) from a big pothole i hit a few weeks back. So i jacked up the car , tightened and voila.....fixed the problem !

if its a squeaking noise when u move ur steering wheel left and right, and the noise you could say it sounds like a dry peice of rubber being rubbed on a dry peice of glass then it most probably b your steering rack which is a common problem on the ep3. Ive had this issue aswell as many other ep3 owners. It can b fixed by just pulling back the rubber boot on ur steering rack and spraying lube inside to lubricate. Thats what my mechanic did almost 3 years ago and i havent had the problem since.

like nepolian said, big increases to vibration, but car feels so much alive to drive i guess. i enjoy it.. and the vibrations aren't as bad as the vibration from a broken mount.. so for me its like driving a new car HAHA =(
