Also, anyone running spoon calipers mind telling me what wheel size your running. Looking to getting some new wheels but want to make sure a have room if/when I decide to do the upgrade. Without using spacers.

Inbox cleared, took me ages to find where the delete button was lol...

Anyway, problem: My dash water temp sensor is not 'centered' when the car is fully heated up. It gets near, but leans more towards the cool side and never moves, unless of course the car has cooled down.

http://imageshack.us/a/img207/4953/imag0682.jpg

I also notice my aftermarket water temp sensor reads a little low, around 65-70c when moving and slowly crawls to 80c when stopped. Most other DC5r (judging by same K20 variant) averages around 80-90c, as well as my friends EP3.

I'm not sure if it's a stuck themostat or the OEM temp sensor going bad, my guess is the thermostat since my the Prosport gauge also reads a low temp. Any thoughts?

thrashing/spirited driving/hooning does not equal track

brakes chassis and engine are all being pushed to the limit.

vtecing and shifting at 8-8400rpm for a few seconds at a time puts no where near the amount of heat that track does, considering during track, your consistently at 5000rpm + for minutes at a times. not the same as giving it a hit down an empty road after a corner lol.

At the track my genuine Defi gauge reads my water temp as being around the 110 degrees mark. Day to day driving, unless I sit in traffic after the car has been driven for a while, it won't ever reach 100 degrees.

Sorry to bring this back up... If I leave the car to idle when the car is warm (stop lights etc), the temps on my aftermarket gauge goes to around 80-85c which seems to be the average temp for k20 engines based on what i've read; however when i start moving about 60km/h or more, it drops to about 65-70c. The temp sender is placed on the upper radiator hose. First I thought it was just the wind going thru grill and cooling the sender, so i blocked it off with cardboard so no wind is going through it and it still drops...

The oem dash gauge doesn't fluctuate and stays in its position when its warmed up like in the picture i posted a few pages back, so I don't think it's the factory coolant temp sensor, since from my understanding that only sends the temps to the dash gauge. Possibly a stuck open thermostat?

Symphorced

If your thermostat was stuck open I'm pretty sure your radiator fan would be constantly on. Had this happen on another car before though it wasn't a Honda.

UNA91
26-09-2012, 08:41 PM
I would have thought if it was stuck partially closed the fans would be on alot and my temps would be reading higher but the fans function just fine. Just thought mine was open causing overcooling thus reading cooler temps

Never heard that
Generally honda thermostats fail in the open position , with coolant circulating constantly the fan/s are likely never to come on.
The temp takes longer to reach optimum , and will drop when driving normally.

LOL that clutchless shifting! I'd be so scared if I ever had to do that. What's the price going to be to fix?

getting new master cylinder got quoted around 220 for everything.

its not as hard, just wind up the rpm a bit more and when you shift just hold it with some very light pressure against the gate and it will slip in as soon as the synchros line up for that split second. hardest part is being quick without being forceful.

tbh i shifted to 2nd and then just puttered along a 70kph road at 40 to the mechanic LMAO didnt wanna risk it i love my gearbox

by the way does anyone know if the clutch and brakes share the same master cyl?
trying to figure out what caused this, it was driving perfectly, clutch was beefy, felt like doing left legged squats every time i drove, the whole time since i owned the car right up until that moment.

dickhead caused me to ram the brakes hard, subsequently downshifted to 2nd and i immediately noticed how different it felt, less push coming back up on the pedal, soon after at the intersection, tried to engage 1st gear and noticed the friction point was at the floor, stalled and then pedal was stuck. such a drastic change leads me to believe something happened when i slammed the brakes. any experts?

UNA91
28-09-2012, 06:32 PM
The clutch and brake cylinder are two separate parts i believe. Just a rough guess, something must've been bent from the shock when you slammed the brakes. Pressing the brakes does flex the firewall slightly so some of that shock may have been transferred along the tranny?

I know what your saying but I think you might have misconstruded what I meant, what I was saying is that I dont mind tracking apart from the cost (track days at $200+), thus I was saying that I wasnt interested in tracking on a regular basis.
The guys with porches or Ferraris usually dont go spending money doing mods to them and barely drive them at all its just for them to take it on a night out while they drop $400 on some wagu steak with their ugly ass slut like brianne eccestone, who the fcuk would want to be seen with her??? But if you look most have very low km's.

LOL. I guess different people get kicks out of doing different things. Many, many awesome builds over all over the world (including Australia) which have race inspired mods but don't go out onto the track. I'd never do such a thing as I don't have that sort of cash myself, but for the people who do, I can respect their decisions to wanting to own a car modified to their own taste without wanting to track it.

exactly what i was saying.

on another note, got the car back after the master and slave cylinders got replaced and clutch felt awesome again.

i noticed there was fk all free play at the time i picked it up. by the time i got home with it, there was 1-2 cm more free play. is that normal? i know thats its not good to have no free play at all, but im worried about whether its normal for the free-play to adjust itself as i operate it.

So I was in Bock Hill (Box Hill) last night and was parked on the main street when I spotted a FL EP3 saw a guy taking pictures of it and started talking to him. He was telling me it was his before he sold it and had done some mods like exhaust and j's racing ECU but no headers or exhaust and saw that the new owner had done some other work like gauges and stuff. Asked they previous owner if he tracked it and he told me no. WTF??? why mod your car and not do anything with it but drive it at legal speed limits?
As I was about to leave I see the new owner go over to his car and same shit. Might as well buy a camry and put cromies on it. Seriously why mod your car to go faster and handle better when all you will do is drive it on the roads as a daily. Ultimate fail imo.

I think you'll find alot of ep3 owners who don't track with mods or not. Most just mod for blinginess for what I've figured. For example, I've seen many ep3 or ek's or eg with all these strut bars, funky coloured lower arm bars + LCA.

Quite honestly, i think these body reinforcement mods are just dead weights for most people. A typical driver don't have the driving skills or push the car hard enough benefit from these mods. For most case when someone claims they do feel a difference, it's more of placebo effect. Normally, I think it takes professional driver or someone with good circuit racing experience to feel minute difference.

Therefore, many just mod for bling rather than function. Not ultimate fail but that's what some people pursue.

At that price, I'd go out on a limb and say that they're fake. Bought mine direct from Japan last year and the price was ¥11,760 (equivalent at the time to about $180) exclusive of shipping.

There's also a neutral feedback on the serller's profile saying that they aren't genuine. Seen replica Project Kics wheel nuts on the market before and wouldn't surprise me if these are one of them.

Check your swaybar end-links to see if they're worn or have any play. Also could be the steering rack needing the famous regreasing. I had a similar problem where I had a really deep creaking sound which almost sounded knocking when parking or doing any manoeuvres; it was sometimes evident when pulling away as well. Regreasing the steering rack fixed it.

Do I need to do a wheel alignment after installing a new rear swaybar and everytime I adjust it (whiteline)?

Is upgrading from the oem 22mm to the 24mm whiteline RSB even a noticable difference? From my understanding there's two points of adjustment for the whiteline one; theres the normal 24mm, then theres a hard setting which pretty much makes it like a 25mm sway bar?

See the silver band that tightens the intake to the intake arm ? Look to the left of this , there is a small nut. There should be a small L piece of metal that holds the back of the filter housing to the side of the engines head. This keeps the heavy gruppe m upright.

kenny07 looking at the pic closely, it looks like you have the L bracket already on it.

I'd try loosening the largest clamp and re-adjust it. Then loosen the smallest hose clamp which connects the gruppe m to the intake hose, and move the whole kit closer to the fire wall/scoop. Then should it move or slip later on, it should only move and hit the edge of the cowl.

I also put some small bits of double sided tape between carbon intake chamber and metal intake snout, to minimise any noise or movement.

If u can spin the main body of the gruppe m then its not tighten down enough. Loosen the large clamp n make sure ur on properly then tighten till the main body needs resistance to spin. It shouldn't spin freely. If u really can't tighten up anymore then what u have then looks like a issue with the sizes of both parts which is preventing u to getting them both clamped down n tightened

I remember I also put a strip of double side tape on the inside edge of both the large clamps. Which gives it a bit more bite when tightening them. Again I put it there to minimise any noise.

I left paper on the double sided tape so it was easy to undo and spin if needed.

not sure how you guys measure ride height since i've never seen the car at stock height, but i guess its a little higher than finger gap from the top...maybe like finger and a half? lol i'm confident the fronts will fit fine without scrubbing on 8" +35 unless i'm swinging hard into a corner maybe. Lol yea i figured there was no sychros for reverse; its just that at my uni I usually park on an slight incline and i would just pop it in neutral, roll into the parking space and sometimes I don't roll back far enough so i select reverse, hence, crunch lol

Currently running 215/45, the wheels i'm looking to get has 225/45 and still with decent thread. According to the offset calculator, I should have 20mm more poke with +35.

Ok, defs getting the wheels. Test fitted my friends 8.5" +30 wheels and they do poke out a little but JUST clears; he was also running wider 235 tyres, should be better with 8" 35+ with 225/45 or 215/45 tyres, but i'll defs need to roll guards anyway, maybe run a little camber to be safe. Whats the point of those lips on the fender anyway...

P.s. I got quoted $39 to freight the set of wheels from Sydney to Brisbane, depot-depot with e-go. Does that sound right? total weight is roughly 88kg, dimensions are 22cm wide, 47cm diameter roughly. I thought i input something wrong so when i changed the dimensions and weight the price only varies by $2 or $3 more. I've used this company to freight wheels from Melbourne to Brisbane without problems before, and it costed me around $85

It probably is silver. It's an Si from USA.

@butterfingers: Adding negative camber using camber bolts will not help with inner clearance issues - in fact, I'm pretty sure it'll make the clearance worse as it angles the hub towards your coilover? You shooould be ok with that offset though as over the weekend, I ran what was effectively a 17x9 +33 with 245/40/17 on the fronts with no issues except on full lock. -_-

I would like to reduce the amount of unnecessary natural camber at the back, which hopefully will help bring the wheels more vertical to the fender for a more flush look, is that possible? Lol I actaully got one this week cause I was curious, and well it wasn't too expensive anyway. My verdict, it does work; but not very well. The best app out there for these scantool things is called "Torque". With the cheap ebay one I got, I can only get it to read my speed, coolant temp, throttle position, RPM and volts, and a few other not so important functions like trip km etc... Cool, thanks for letting me know. See, I might be old school, but a single unit that reads water temp, battery voltage, speed and RPM is something that saves me buying 2-3 seperate gauges and associated attachments and then drilling all manner of holes in my dash to fit them . . . Currently an Apexi N1, its just the mid pipe thats in bad condition, might opt to just get a custom mid pipe made.

Btw, how many liters of brake/clutch fluid would i need for a full flush and bleed? and where is the clutch bleed valve :|? Also do braided brake lines make you stop faster or does it just improve brake pedal feel?

I would think wifi would tend to drop in and out , causing it to lag depending on your reception. The bluetooth should work with any android or apple phone.

I'd only use 1L of brake fluid for a full flush, but if you're doing the clutch too maybe get 1.5L and use a 1-200mL for the clutch and the rest on the brakes. The clutch bleed screw is under the intake manifold kinda, on the front of the gearbox on the slave cylinder. I doubt you'll see a difference in stopping distances, at least on the first stop, it may make a difference at track brake temperatures.

I think it's all relative. I found definite improvement and stopping distance has decreased its like super stop when you hit the brakes but again I don't track my car. Mostly street use and some spirited driving.

Motul RBF600 if you're tracking, otherwise OEM dot4 will suffice.

I would think wifi would tend to drop in and out , causing it to lag depending on your reception. The bluetooth should work with any android or apple phone.

That's what I thought till I started looking into them. From my many many internet readings, unless the maker of the device has paid Apple for their bluetooth protocols the its wifi only on the iPhone I'm afraid. You will notice there are heaps more bluetooth devices available and as a rule they are cheaper . . .

I'm looking at the the Buddy Club Pro Spec exhausts, and just wondering what the difference between the Spec I, II, III, IV is... From what i've read the Spec I is for US designed Hondas; does that mean it won't bolt straight on to the JDM EP3?

IIRC, the lower the number, the louder it is...

II is a straight pipe with a very very 'small' [non-existing] hotdog resonator and a cone muffler at the back...

III has a proper resonator and a cannon tip

IV as above except design more subtle [didn't work though...]

Does anyone have a blueprint/picture of the Kakimoto Fullmega N1+ Rev that I can show my exhaust guy what it looks like?
