The MPS has a real nice exhaust tone to it, sounds almost like a boxer engine... I was actually considering driving it on my P's (idk about other states but QLD can't drive turbo on P's) before the EP3, and just debadge it and maybe take off the spoiler lol. The golf R and R32 is outta my price range, they're still around the 30k mark. I've always wanted a 350z or s2k but too impractical and can't find a decent one these days. The WRX hatchback caught my eye for a awhile; could be bought for under 25k for a 2008 one, but the rear end just doesn't look proportional to me.. in fact all of subaru's rear is just ugly to me :/ FT86 looks nice, but the engine seems to be nothing to boast about... its either the same or just a downgrade. Decisions = money lol

Maybe I should just wait for the new turbo CTR thats gonna come out in two years, rumoured to have 300hp :/

Still nope.

If under 25 (they more lenient now, 23 probably) they wont insure.

And if you are under that age, the only way you could possibly be insured is if you're a member of a CAMS affiliated club, and have your CAMS license, with trackday history.

And they prefer you to have a garage that has a lock on it to store your car over night.

You satisfy none of these. So gtfkedm8

I'm 18 and insured by Shannon's for my ep3. But I have been racing for many many years and have a cams race license

Yup. As long as you have a cams licence and have a long/consistant history in club events on tracks theyll be happy to insure.

Anyone here looked into buying a mugen or seibon rear wing recently? I'm having a hard time finding one at a decent price.

They're also now discontinued from mugen :(

Cheapest seibon one I can get is around $845 AUD shipped. Ideally I don't really want to pay that much for something that may/may not fit well.

Cheapest mugen one I can see is approx $1700 AUD shipped, and I still need to confirm the availability!

Nengun "list" the mugen one as 1099 or there abouts. Once factoring in shipping I have no idea

Mu secret can get the seibon ones, and the seibon aus website say there around the 5-700 mark. Prob not including shipping.

Btw seibon list 2 different Mugen reps, one for usdm ep3 si and one for jdm ep3 type r. How this relates to the mentioned fitment issues I'm not sure. Also seibon one gives you more options for the color coding for the money. By that I mean you can leave it completely cf or just paint leave the blade cf and paint the side CW, as it comes with the cf alreay gel coated as its finish. Mugen you have to paint.

What brake pads are you guys running or recommend for fast road street car? Looking to get new pads and I've heard good stuff about Ferodo DS2500 apart from the brake dust. Also heard Project Mu type NS is good, but crap when cold :S

DreadAngel

I personally don't like Ferodo DS2500, I find them noisy, dusty and performance sub-par for what its meant to be... If you want to go this far, go for Endless MX72 instead then cause I highly rate these pads [Used them on my 111 ;)]

I would say Type NS would be ok if you don't intend to go have serious fun... The co-efficient and temp range is too small and low... If you want something from the Project Mu range, go for the B-Spec, they'll be relatively friendly to stockish rotors while providing good bite and you can have good fun with them =)

My friend is running Endless SSS atm, beautiful pads... However they're discontinued so you might want to consider Endless NS97 which are quite similar to B-Spec, they have more bite initially but not as much once heated ;)

stateroads one of the most detailed reports you can get. down to the paint thickness on every panel on your car.

They know a lemon when they see one. many people over at SAU use them to inspect skylines evos chasers and normal cars like camrys bmws and vws.

They got a bajillion point check. compared to the racv crap where they just say if the car is rwc or not.

Example of one of their complete reports: http://www.vehicle-inspection.com.au/images/stories/report/vtest_sample_report.pdf

But you only use state roads on a car that your REALLY keen on you've brought someone like oscar along to see if the car seems alright as the inspection is few hundred bucks.

Thanks for the info. I just texted the seller and his response text to my question of whether its been registered was:
"No it doesnt have an engineering certificate, thats why i have not had the engine number re-registered, I dont see any risk and the car can pass pink slip easily"

I then responded with, "what happens if i buy the car and want to get it re-registered?"

Imo, find out exactly how much an engineering cert is going to end up costing you and ensure that it will pass with no issues before you even consider buying the car.

Or just buy a clean and relatively stock EP3 and save yourself the headache.. The fact that you've come on here and asked everyone more than once what we think of it shows your hesitation towards buying the car. Not sure why you're still considering it when theres much cleaner examples for sale.

ok how about if the front sway is designed for US RSX and ep3 si I assume I'm going back to square one again but is it a 100% definate I have to run AUS dc5r headers to clear a dc5r front sway on a EP3?

with any car in general. when i forst got on my L's my ek1 felt fast.

after awhile of driving the ep3 your butt dyno gets accustomed to the torque. people i know with other faster cars say the same about theirs as well.

i think the only situation where a car will feel fast every time you drive it no matter how long youve owned it is if its got like 500+hp or something.

Clearance varies with the sway bars I think, ie. the Whiteline swaybar on Australian DC5R will clear most JDM headers when set on full stiff, and would most likely be the same on EP3. But to be assured of fitment though you'd need to run an Australian or US spec header, either OEM or aftermarket. Stuff like Skunk2, SSR, ASP will fit with the Australian DC5R front sway bar.

Subjective, but the time is usually the same for all cars...

It's also highly dependent on the person and type of driver/owner you are... If you're simply after the adrenalin of going fast and being pushed into the back of your seat in a straight line then you'll definitely get bored of any car quick.

Lock out sensor is basically stops you from accidentally shifting into reverse. I think it uses use moving speed to sense it. As for running kpro I'm not sure, but you'll want prb, prd or pre ecu

Turns out the Ep3 I was looking at a few posts back is running the incorrect Kpro and has a broken lock out sensor. Also found out that the engine doesn't have a receipt from the builder to confirm the engine hasn't been stolen (also found out that dr Honda is a scam artist from BYR). OEM globes are D2R - so already HID. If you don't have HIDs already it's likely that they changed it to a halogen bulb for compliance and did not revert it afterwards.

KPro itself is the model, but you'll want it installed in a PRD (jdm ep3r), PRC (jdm dc5r), PRB (audm dc5r) or the the ecu from the accord type r, which i cant remember. Dunno about the Type S ecu. I discovered that when I'm using the OBD scanner, the long term fuel trim resets to 0% every time I turn off the car with the key.

The car is always learning when I start the car and potentially not achieve the optimal AFR.

Perhaps, this explains frequent carbon build up appear from the exhaust ??

Have you thought of the fact that Aussie fuel is a few octane ratings lower than the intended (tuned for) JDM fuel ?
This is turn will naturally make the standard ECU retard timing and run richer - giving you this carbon build up and also not-that-good fuel economy.

You can plug in a local DC5R or DC5S and this will help with your carbon problem over time and also gain back decent fuel economy!

Yes, I do acknowledge that aussie fuel is not as great as JDM fuel and do play a part of carbon build up. That's common knowledge floating amongst most EP3 owners.

However, I am interested to understand what the OEM ecu is "naturally" doing to richen up the fuel.

Anyway, from what I have gathered is that the long term fuel trim parameter on any ECU is not precisely 0% and should be within range of -10% to 10% under normal running conditions. This is value formulated from the short term fuel trim which is dictated by the signal read from the primary oxygen sensor.

The prefl ep3's long term fuel trim value always resets to 0% for time the engine is started. This value is too ideal to be realistic and hence I'm curious to understand why this is the case. On my fl ep3 however, which has a different immobilizer system retains a value between -6% to -5.5% each time I start the engine. Based on this the prefl ep3 complied by the workshop which IMG (who did the aftermarket immobiliser) does not seems to persistently store the long term fuel trim value which my facelift ep3 does. Both use OEM ECU but compliance were done at different workshops.

Now the interesting observation and comparison from rear exhaust tip of both ep3s is that the prefl appears to be relatively darker with carbon soot than my fl ep3. This seems consistent with the fact the my fl ep3 is running relative leaner than the prefl ep3 based on long term fuel trim. Hence, I have a concern that the immobilizer always resetting the ecu (due to power cut off) and resulting the prefl ep3 running slightly richer than it needs to.

Anyway, just food for thought that got me curious.

So I went for my first mountain run and it was great, but know i know instead of aiming for power, I want handling.
I feel that sometimes if i corner to hard, my car begins to lose traction, other than tires what other upgrades can I do to improve handling?

I currently have engine mounts and an exhaust.

viett

UNA91
16-06-2013, 08:44 AM
Cusco makes a 25mm one, and whiteline makes a 24mm. Both are adjustable, and Whiteline is more available. Coilovers help a ton too, but get some rear camber arms if you plan to lower tho

bluey45
16-06-2013, 09:18 AM

Whiteline one.

charliebrown
16-06-2013, 09:27 AM
Tyres first. Then reassess

After that, coilovers or a larger rear sway bar depending on what you want from the car

stienerv2
16-06-2013, 10:21 AM
Pretty much what everyone has said. The biggest difference i've notice was the coilovers. It helps mid corners when there is a bump which causes traction loss

You're showing people a photo of your front lip with bits of coolant on it and expect us to be able to say whether or not it'll be easy to fix? lol

Try and see if you can isolate where the leak is coming from... areas to start are radiator, radiator hoses, water pump/thermostat.
