jus wondering how big is the tank? n i was told it was 60L
n jus wondering how many kms. u peeps get out of a full tank.
i hardly thrash the car but seems like i can onli do 300 on full tank.
is there a way to fix this prob?
or its jus normal for a lude?

Yep, you've got 60L tank capacity...

300kms out of a full tank? Doesn't sound right though... If my family's Fairmont can get 450km out of its 68L tank with its big ass engine and body... then something definitely wrong lol

Tried checking your fault codes?

Could be a faulty O2 Sensor.

yeah thats WAy too low dude.

its a 60L tank in total, but yeah u never actually fill up 60L when ur filling up off a pretty empty tank, eg, empty and fuel light on for 100kms.

Full tank i get 450+ kms, and thats fangin it here and there also, but mine is manual.

as said above check ur error codes, could be anything from faulty o2 sensor to clogged EGR valve, causing u to run rich. u blowing black smoke ?

I just bought a 97 auto lude and was experiencing the same thing as you until I realised the problem.
The needle would show almost empty and the orange light was on and I had got 375 kms with normal driving... I then filled it up and could only fill up 40 litres in the tank before it spilled out all over the floor so that means I got 375kms for 40 litres which is really good. How ever because I thought 'hmm full tank only got me 375' I start whinging that it's bad fuel economy.

Basically you need to go to a pump and find out how many Litres you can fill up and work out how many kms that got you. It's inaccurate to say 'a full tank gets me 450' as a 'full tank' measured by how low the needle goes can vary by up to 20 litres (which was the case for me)
In my case it just shows that my fuel gauge is VERY pessimistic

i shall do that. thanks guys n girls :D

nah im not blowing out black smoke @ all. like the car hardly blows out smoke.
its jus weird cuz at times i wuld fill up 25L on E. n it wuld go up 3/4 of the way.
makes me think that ive got heaps of petrol left. at the end of the day i onli ran 220km ? not sure if thats normal or not. i havnt reached out 450km yet n i wuld of coarse wana avoid the red light. lol

but i do notice that it kills less wen im on d highway..
ive been told 2 different things.
cruise control drinks less petrol.?
cruise control drinks more petrol ?

ok can sum clear that up for me? lol

Cruise control shouldn't effect petrol, its how much + how hard you accelerate and how much cruising you do that will effect your mileaage.

cruise control saves petrol. because the throttle is consistent. if you can keep your foot perfectly still then i guess thats the same thing.

an example. you would use less petrol maintaining constant throttle and speed, in comparison to acclerating up to 100, then letting it drop to 90, then accelerating back up to 100 and so forth.

My orange light comes on around 450 mark and then I still drive for another 100kms and when I fill up it clicks at 55L.

Don't piss yourself when the orange light comes on. I can garentee you get another 150kms out of your tank when that happens.

check your tyre pressure.

Low air in tyres can increase drag and reduce economy by ALOT.

hey champ....omg my 97 manual prelude experiences the same thing....
it has only 40-45L capacity tho...im pretty sure of that...but still only does 300km....around there....most of the time around 280km....its in quite good condition as well so i dunno wats wrong wif it.

would the sports exhaust have an effect on fuel consumption?

i might get that sensor thing checked as mentioned by sum1 earlier....

^^ ummm your pretty sure that ur tankn has a 40 to 45 L capacity?
I've got some good news for you... It's 60 Litres =]
Carry a jerry can with you if you dont believe me and watch your self hit the 500km mark with relative ease

kn1ghtm4r3

^ x2 my civic has the capacity of 45L so yeah yours would be the 60 fo sure.

maybe you should just run it till u thnk its empty. then when you fill up see how much you filled up and then minus that from ur tank capactiy to give u an estimate of how much u had left =P

hey rob.....um well if its 60L its even worse news for me....coz im still only hittin to about 300km per tank....i havent actually tried to run it until its almost empty....coz 1. i only had the car 2 months ago and still learning to drive the manual so havent driven it that often.....2. lol...wat if it runs outta petrol in my attempt to try to run it till its empty?.....neway im just jk wif number 2

but yer i was hoping that its 40L coz then a full tank of 300km wont be as bad as 300km = 60L tank.....the latter is so much worse

but honestly last time i filled it up.....it stops at 40ish sumthin L and it clicks.....shrugs....im quite confused....but i ll get back to u again on how many L it really is.

oh btw....i just checked out the officla prelude brochure...n it said 60L....so i must be wrong wifout trying to prove myself ............also it says that for fuel economy: 9.5L/100km for manual VTI-R .....and my car is prolly running 9.5L/72km....so pretty shit efficiency there.....boooo

thats with optimal driving conditions ie something like 100km/hr with minimal stop start traffic with a brand new car.

an older car with traffic conditions can't expect to reach these figures. my friend bought a jaz and averages 6.5/100 the sticker says 5 something. its optimistic marketing

thats almost a litre for kilometer... driving it 'nicely' as well? somethigns wrong there for yoru car to be almost rolling for 1 kilometer and use 1 litre of petrol, u'd literarly feel sick from all the fumes you'd be smelling...

something definately not right there. even 200km would be pretty low.

im the same as these boys 450ish around town, and 500 of highway driving

not the best for 60l tank but it is a quite large car

my old EG had 40L tank and i got same mileage sometimes more

egs have a 45lt tank. they get around the same km.

My ed also gets around the 450-500km mark fairly easily.. 45lt tank and the prelude isnt a large car.

i had an auto VTIR 98 lude and most i ever got was bout 420km's.. and that was barely hammering it..

I now have a manual 99 VTIR lude and i get about 500km easy, fill up with bout 10L left in the tank, so im gettin bout 10L/100kms and thats with traffic/peak hour most of the time and fangin it other times..

auto always eats more than manual, but theres a bunch of things that u can check.. If your registered on PreludeAustralia click the search butto on there, its been covered heapssssss of times

Tarks
02-11-2007, 08:40 PM
P.S- people comparing the lude to the civics shouldnt.. 2.2L engine compared to 1.6L or less, heavier and bigger car, more power, more drainage of fuel..

Ludes are good on fuel if a) its manual (general case in any car when compared to auto), and b) its been looked after
