Very good info there lor....

Also to add - perhaps an easy method is to take it to any authorized garbage tip near your house - At the tip is always a oil-recycling centre , which you simply pour into a big vat and the council takes care of the rest !

Cost = 0 !

.....OR....you could just place it outside any petrol station in containers....really late at night :)

I believe you can also dispose them at your local waste management center, there is a special section where you place used oils at, however as for all those who been there before, it will cost money to dispose waste there.

Not sure if this applies to all Super Cheap stores or only my local one. I tried to take 10L of used oil there recently and was told they no longer accept it. But in saying that the 15 year olds that work there probably don't know what they are talking about...

They stopped accepting them about 12 months ago as the contract they had with the company taking them wasn't re-signed.

I have a hole in the dirt outside that I tip it in all the time.

I've tried to take it to a few facilities once and they wanted ME to pay to give them my oil. That's ridiculous. Why should I pay money to give them free oil which they will be recycling ?

I'd rather pour it in my oil hole that I made in my backyard.

In NSW, all Sita-run Waste Management Centres (http://www.wsn.com.au/) take up to 10L of engine & transmission oil for free. I just keep going to the Seven Hills one every few days on the way to work to dump oil. They also take car batteries, but they don't take engine coolant nor brake fluid. For those, I drop by my regular Bridgestone Tyre Centre and they take it off my hands at no charge (I am a regular there though).

The Waste Management Centres in VIC also do the same. I used to live near the one on Clayton Road towards the Moorabbin side. Could also drop off up to 10L of oil.

Hi guys,

The link below is an updated list (July 2012) of all the waste transfer stations that offer free disposal (up to 20-30 litres depending the station and who is in charge) of used engine oil and the containers. If you have more then 20L then just go on a different day. It also has the address and hours of opening.

http://www.aip.com.au/pdf/health/program_site_list.pdf

The setup at the Darebin Station is quite good; they have a big metal bin for the old engine oil and smaller bins right next to it for the bottle once empty. I imagine the other transfer stations would be similar.

Cheers!

If you're down Moorabbin way then Oil World also take waste oil for no charge, you just have to take the bottles home though.
Notting Hill waste transfer station take up to 30L for free then they charge 50c/L after that... really they're just looking for people bringing in 20L drums of used oil.

Some mechanics will let you dump it in in their container, it gets picked up for free any ways.
