hi all

i got a 2005 Honda Civic Sedan GLI Auto (which ive only done 25,000 kms)

In December i am coming up to my 40k service i would like to know

how much is this going to cost $$$

and what things they service, as i believe the 40k and every 40k is a major service

thanks!

oil + filter
air filter
tappets
auto trans service

should be around $485 using genuine parts, but it will depend on their labour rate and if any extras are required

ok thank u, that sounds reasonable for a major service.

why would you give it a 40 000km service when its only done 25000kms

because thats what it says in the owners manual

it says which ever comes first i.e the service interval 6 months or the Kms (10k, 20k, 30l etc)

didnt realise about the kms.....

tappets wont need to be done, trans is still an option if u haven't had the ATF replaced previously, a clean of the air filter would most likely get it thru to the next service.

you're also approaching a brake fluid change, depending on the build date of the car

the manual mght say 6 months or 10kilometres etc

but it doesnt mean you have to do it, ive always followed the kilometres and ignored the time.

unless you have heaps of $$$$ to throw away

I recommend just follow kilometres.

yea your right, i might just stick with the kilometres next time!!! ive done 25,500 so im going to wait till i hit 40,000kms and then get it serviced again ! should be 12 months away !

ok no dont wait till 40000 then youve waited too long

hondas are servied every ten, cop it sweet. do the next service at 30, then continue with 10 intervals

Get an engine oil change @30,000km... and then again service @ 40,000km should be sweet.

Or you can have a interval engine oil change @ 35,000km. Remember just an oil change at local mechanics are fine.

Since you do not drive the car that often, i would do the 5,000km oil change.

just my 2c...

Yes, I think you did.

I have always found Austral consistenly more expensive than the other dealers. Always ring around all the dealerships and get their quote for the service that you want. You will be amazed at the price difference.

Best value for me has been Blue Ribbon Honda in Ipswich, and they give free loan cars. All the others wanna charge $35 for a loaner.

Austral - consistently too expensive (could be due to being close to CBD).
Westpoint - expensive and also did not bother addressing items I asked them to check.
Northside - used to be really good but service levels and quality of work have slipped lately, charge for work that wasn't authorised as well as for parts which weren't even used.
Southside - not the cheapest but seems to provide quite good service.
Blue Ribbon - cheapest and free loan cars.

Anyone done a 40,000km service for their 8th gens? I've got mine booked in for this Friday. and the dude said that it's the first major service for my car? (3 years now) and it'll be $483 for the service and $95 to flush the brake fluid? Does this sound right? I looked at the service schedule logbook and the 40,000km looks just like the 30,000km (which set me back $225) except that it involves changing the oil filter and brake fluid. $588 all up..
