hey guys...

i hav this funny noise cummin frm my engine..its kinda lyk a clikin noise? i htink its cumin frm the left side of the engine bay.. it sounds kinda lyk cogs spinnin but it sounds rough..

this only occurs when im in gear.. travellin at low rpm.. its loudest during first gear... n in second its not as loud.. n in third its pretty much gone..

im thinkn of changin my gearbox oil to see if that helps...

ne1 no wats goin on here?

Could it be something to do with the timing belt? I remember someone helped lub up something around there and the rough cog sounds disappeared *insert Ben or Aaron comment below* lol

Does it happen all the time or only when the engine is cold or warm?

IF the sound is comming from the passenger side, and it make noise all the time, I really think its the tensioner for the AC compressor. I had the same problem not long ago, and the tensioner is gone. Took it out and try spinning it with my hands, it wont even move.

Good lucky though mate

Does it click when you change from one gear to another gear,
or click while you're in gear and traveling?

constant clicking or just single click?

when im in gear n travelling... n its constant.. but then either it goes away at higher rpm.. or the engine noise overpowers the clicking noise so it cant b heard...

Does it still click if you are in neutral and using the same RPM and throttle position as when you are in gear with clicking?

Then it's probably transmission related....

if its most noticble when you turn corners than suss out your driveshafts. if there leaking grease from the cv joints than theres your problem.

gosh.

You need someone who has half an idea of cars , to listen to this noise , rather than describe it on teh interweb.

True that, I don't think its the tensioner then, because the tensioner is always spinner when the engine is on.
You mention that when your in neutral its normal but when your in gear it makes noise. Well it's not the tensioner, check transmission.

It's not hard, but i don't think its the tensioner then. VTEC1987 is correct the noise should always be there if its the tensioner.

better off going to mechs mate, nothing we can do but throw random guesses at you which wastes your time. Go to mech get them to suss out the noise, GG easy done

Yeah mechanics would be the best way to go, no one seems to have an idea over describing this sound over the net D:

sounds like when my isb went, althought hard to check whether it really is that or not as you'd have to take off the box and all

it would make a grinding sound a low speed(under 20k's) any faster it would eventually be over ruled by the engine noise
take off won't be smooth since it might be bouncing around in the isb housing
be noisy when you let off the throttle at low speed while in gear also
