Hi Guys

Am new to driving a manual. So have a quick question for all the experts.
Say when i am in 5th or 6th gear and i come to a light to stop or slow down. can i shift stright to neutral and then say to 2nd or do i have to shift to 4th, 3rd then 2nd??

Thanks guys

its common to change from 6th to 4th or from 5th to 3rd.

6th to second might be too big a change cause the revs could be quite high once the clutch is released in second gear.

Theres not harm in doing so as long as its smooth and the revs are insanely high.

Awesome...
as long as there is no harm in doing so
i always ensure that i only change it down to 2nd when the speed is really low.
eg u are doing say 70 and u have to really slow down at the lights and the car slows down to say around 25kms then i would change it to 2nd to keep moving again..

yeah cool. you know what your doing then.

I've changed down to second at 90 k's an hour cause i needed to get going pretty quickly (my second gear goes to about 125 though lol)

Just blip the throttle before you release the clutch so the revs match. If you find that you are having trouble putting it from 5th to 3rd, then you might have to learn a more advanced technique.

This is not relating to down shifting, but when shifting up dont skip gears.. eg. go from 1 to 2 to 3 etc. Skiping gears can prematurely wear your syncros. I know its hard in the s2000 at ties but keep that in mind.

^^ Agreed, go through all the gears when upshifting.
