Hi guys,

I notice some rattling noise in the engine. Very noticeable around 1800 rpm - 2000 rpm. Is that the valve lifter noise?
Does that means I need tappet adjusted?

hmm...

i got the same thing happening to my car but its not the valve lifter...coz the lifter sounds more like a ticking noise...

my one became noticable when i got x-force headers on it...

a friend of mine also had this happen to his car when he got a guy make a custom exhaust for him that ended up the wrong length or something...its been fixed since then...

im not too sure what it is man but i think it has to do with the vibrations at 1750rpm-1800rpm

Mine is stockie. So hard to describe noise in forum.
I dunno if my rattling the same like ur ticking...
It's not as loud as diesel engine.. and it's gone when it's over 2000 rpm.

nah, see mine doesn't tick...mine makes a rattling noise aswell...

what im sayin was that the valve lifters have a ticking noise rather than a rattling noise...

how long has that been going on for?!?

your engine doesnt have lifters

you probably need to have the tappets set

Is it big damage if it's not fixed ASAP?

Happen again last night... on the hill, rattle when pressing the gas pedal
Not so much though when I keep steady on the pedal.

issit sounds bit sqeaky as well? because i use to own a 99 cxi , the has the sqeaky sound coming form the engine bay, but i found out that it come from the gear box... but as mention by someone before, it is hard to identify through internet.

Adjust the tappets anyway - it will only be a benefit.

If it fixes your problem its a bonus.

sounds like its your timming is too advanced to me and its pinging get your ignition timming set as you you described it did on a hill with heavy load and when your easy on the throttle it doesnt do it

yeah once you said hill gave it away as being timing for me too

yeah if its hill and under load then yeah its pinging...either you have ignition timing too far advanced or your fuel is of too low an octane rating.do you run normal unleaded?maybe try bp ultimate and see how it goes.or you get a timing light, get your specs for your car and set it right.pinging sounds kind of like the sound a diesel makes...pinging is sometimes refered to also as diesel knock and pre-ignition...sounds like your problem.it is very harmful to your engine if left doing it over time, causes premature wear inside the combustion chamber.
drive along at about 60kmph and be in probably 4th gear then plant the accelerator, you dont want to accelerate, you want to be full throttle and hardly gaining speed.this puts the engine under load,if your car is pinging it will make the noise now, then back off and it will stop
