I was thinking about proposing a track day as a work function (we have staff fun days every once and while). Firstly, where is the closest race track to the Gold Coast?
2ndly, what's the best way to prepare for a track day. I assume get rid of everything in your car not required but any other tricks people have to get an edge. Also would people not recommend tracking an auto?
I don't expect to win anything as the cars we have at work are:
My Euro (5sp auto)
06 2.5L WRX (manual stock)
03 2.0L WRX (manual with exhaust)
02 XR6T (4sp auto stock)
Hiace Van (lol)
Excel (manual)
I know the guys in the van and excel prolly won't come in their cars though.
Our should I simply come up with another idea :)
Go karting? might be a better option

closest track would be willowbank (queensland raceway) man. and as to what you should do to prepare your car
-change oil
-check brake fluid/pads
-check coolant
-check coolant hoses
-remove any dead weight
-check air filter and oil filter
-if you have a massive bodykit, remove this as you WILL damage it
-bring spare tires, just in case
-fill up on fuel
-check clutch fluid
these are just off my head. there are probably many more things, maybe other people can contribute

We did that another year and was awesome. I'd like to do it again but everyone else wants to do something different.

Does anyone know if there is a 1/4 mile run near the Goldcoast?

QR is it for putting your car on a circuit. As said, they do drags out that way too. They have a test n tune on either tuesday or wednesday nights for about $20-$30 if i recall, it's been ages since going out so check their website.
If you want to do circuit work, check out QR website and look for the details for the sprints. They run 7-8 sprints each year and anyone can participate. I wouldn't worry about removing a bodykit for QR, but everything else that riruiz said is right. Double check wheel nuts before you go on the track and before the drive home.
I've done quite a handful of the sprints out there (not in the civic), feel free to ask me any q's.
There is warwick too, but they don't do sprints out there. Hairy little circuit too, not good for the first timers, minimal room for run off. Did it in the wet once, good times :)

probably a good idea to change to some better automatic transmission fluid, as most automatic transmissions tend to overheat on the track.

If you want to find out more about Willowbank Raceway and Queensland Raceway go here http://www.willowbank-raceway.com.au and click on the "What's On" section, or here http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au.
Test 'n' Tune is run on Wednesday and Saturday nights (Wed open from 5pm, Sat open from 4pm), and it's $36 for a car to run (+ a passenger), or $18 each for spectators.
