HEy all,
i recently experienced a problem with my set up in my car, civic 96 hatch...
it was running really nicely for about 2 years... brand new set up with everything, the lot!!.. i have a good decent battery which provides 14 volts to my head deck and no doubt the same to my amp. but recently my amp just decided to dud out on me. i checked all the normal things like, wires falling out and loose connections but i cant find the problem. but i did notice this, my fuse in the engine bay was stuffed.. so i put a new one in and i got my friend to turn my car on after replugging the wires into the amp. and it goes hard for about 10 seconds.. then suddenly the fuse begins to melt before my eyes... and then the sub stops working.. and the protection light pops on..
the wiring is all 0 gauge.
the head deck is Pioneer DEH-P8950BT
the amp i bought was the entry level alpine v12 MRV-T757 2/1 channel ~ can run up to 1000 rms on 1 ohm but isnt stable.. but will run fine on 2ohms
the sub im running is a black faced Kicker solo-baric L7 - 750 rms @ 2 ohms
so basically im thinking that my amp is short circuiting or has a wire loose somewhere in the internals of the amp.. i took it back to the place i bought it from and since its over the warranty, they said it would be a waste of my time sending it away for repair cos its an oldish amp.. and i should buy a new one... cos no doubt the rms ratings of it will have droped.. and "it would cost more to figure out what is wrong with it.. + replace or repair it.. cos is alpine..." LOL what a joke.. but the truth :\
so at the moment im running a 600rms schneider amp for my 750 rms L7 sub, and i get the same problem if i turn it up to high.. the amp comes on with protection.. but i think that is because the sub's rms rating is too high for the amp.. but still it shouldn't come up with protection... according to some people it shouldnt cut out with protection, and it should just under power the sub at 600rms.. am i right? but at least it still works..
any clues to my problems?
