People who has replaced there stock header to a Toda one, has anyone had any problems with not having a heat shield around the header, e.g anything around it melt cos of the heat, paint on bonnet changing colour due to heat etc etc. Any problems at all and what did u do to fix the heat from the header.

Maybe discolouring on the underside of the bonnet, but it would take a hell of a lot of heat to effect the upside of the bonnet, as in, ( Bonnet + Hand = OUCHHHH).
Correct me if im wrong.

No its logic. Just think about it. What kind of heat you have to produce for paint to discolour. The sun on a black car would make it hotter than headers would. The fact of having the heat shield is so it doesnt heat up the engine bay as much, for intake purposes (i think).
Hope that helps.

Cool cool. I was just curious if any of these has happened to due to the heat. I love the headers anyways its awesome definitely felt the power difference.

We've fitted heaps & never had a problem.

sorry if people have misunderstood what im talking about i wanna apologise, im not here to put crap on the Toda headers as i said previously i love em. I just wanted to know whether i need put a heat shield or wrap them to for example stop colour discolouration, plastic melting etc etc.

We aren't bagging you out mate, just answering your question.
Hope it doesn't seem that way :)

Logic?
paint discolours over years of sun and elements/chemical abuse. (look at any aged car)
You think the sun on a black car would be hotter than a header would ?
Go for a spirited drive or track day on a sunny day in a black car - end the session and quickly jump put and place your hand on the roof. Hot.
Jump underneath your car and grab the B pipe or open teh bonnet and grab the header....tell us what happens to your hand and then tell us again which is hotter.
The heatshield on a header is to protect your HAND when working near it.
On some other cars there is a "dont touch" symbol pressed into the heat shield.

Did i say the header wouldnt be hot? I believe i said the sun would make the bonnet hotter than the header would...
Maybe read my post before you bag it.

Altho i misinterpreted part of your post read thru and its apparent i am correcting where you are wrong or mislead.
To the original poster - TYPE-R617 (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/member.php?u=5893) - there is no issue with using a header with no heatshield. The heatshied on OEM headers is to protect you from burning your hard etc when working in the engine bay.
No excess heat is produced or alters anything (paint etc)

A better comparison would be to touch the roof and then the area of the bonnet that is above the headers

can we get someone with some sort or thermometer at these two positions for X amount of time and see if there is a difference ?

I say there would be a difference. The bonnet would get sun and excess heat from the "headers" :S!!! Unless there was some sort of an umbrella mechanism, or a device to shade the bonnet, to see which heats up most, over a trip for the headers to become hottttt as, this couldnt be done accurately!
Hmmmm

test it test it !
Remember on most if not all OEM bonnets , there is a heat proof matt under the bonnet to protect it from excess heat.
Although we know there is no known problem with using no heatshield - it still is interesting to find out if there is a difference of heatshield VS no heatshield.
I might go steal my mech's temp measure and give it a go

Unless we take away the heat of the roof from the bonnet, then we get the heat generated from headers... that would be easier then suspending an umbrella above your bonnet...

running toda headers doesnt cause any problems under the hood
but u can feel it under the car there is more heat produced by the header
the shield is there to defect the heat away from other engine components
the heat shield will still burn u if it touches u when it is hot
but why spend all that money and cover up a beautiful piece of art ?

nuh man i never wanted to cover it up, i wanna show it off, just cover up the things that would get affected if any eg hose, paint on bonnet etc etc.

What you also have to remember is that the heat from the sun is not the major contributor that fades paints it's the UV

Yeah but i used the sun's heat as an example to the heat from the headers :)
I have 5zigen headers, with no heat shield and haven't noticed anything.

I was just about to say,
I read thro the 2 pages and thought 'why dont they think about a turbo setup' and then saw your post at the end...
a turbo would get so much hotter, and people dont seem to have a problem with bonnet discolouration there...
