Plenty of people have done it over in the states and there are many sellers that are willing to post the sc unit over to Australia. 2nd hand superchargers go for around 1.5k - 2k US dollars, depending on what size pulley and what type of supercharger you are after.

Power wise, superchargers do not make super power up in top end but there is a dramatic low and mid range increase. If you are looking for big power then go with a turbo setup, if you are after a track car I would go for the SC setup. Thats my 2cents.

Good luck if do go ahead with the project.

i would supercharger purely because of the aural excitement.

You wont get the top end of a turbo but you will get a overall power increase.

ahhh oks thanks guys and how will this affect my fuel consumption? and will this affect vtec at all? cos ive been told theres 2 types of superchargers ones that go from bottom through to mid and then the top end ones? just curious as the car i maybe looking into has been supercharged already and want to know how affects driving and use of the car =] cheers.

SC - are usually Belt driven whilst your Turbo is exhaust driven.

SC will come on at idle, but the higher you go the less efficient it is. Normally they put SC in cars that do no rev very high. The whole idea of SC is for instant power on tap. They normally put them V8s as they don't reve high, and add heaps of torque to the car.

Turbo works off exhaust so it takes time to build up the speed of the exuahst to spin the turbo. Thus you only get boost when the turbine spins enough to create boost. Usually used on High revving cars.

In the end the turbo has more potential, on a k20 with such a high revving engine i would have assumed that the SC would be wasted and that a turbo would be a better option. But then it could depend on the use of the car also. i.e Drag car might benefit more as it would have torque on tap.

Just my 5c

goto k20a.org - its an american website. there is a type R DC5 integra with a k24 and i think its a Jackson Racing Supercharger. its making 550hp atw, then add in the NOS it makes 700hp atw...

SC + aftermarket cams+valve+retainer is great for k20 motor... it's actually good to gain the power from low-mid-then high wif vtecing....

but for turbo set up, you can't actually drive that hard to pull a 9000rpm....you will lose of fun because you can only rev till 8000rpm unless u change ur block,etc...

Use a comptech kit, they work well.
Stay away from RC 550cc injectors, use 440cc or 620+
Or modify your std ones to 520cc
The car just feels like it has a bigger engine & sounds like an angry pig.
Fuel consumption is worse but not terrible, you'll need a programable aftermarket ECU (eg: K-Pro) also.

theres 2 types of superchargers.

centrifugal - its got the compressor side of a turbo but the compressor is turned by the engine belt. these are said to be more efficient than your usual roots type which is the second type. it just sits around your intake manifold. hrm don't know quite how to explain this one hahahaha.

but i would say go sc if you want. in a way its good coz u get instant repsonse and you could probably make the same or more power than someone who did a hard n/a build on a k20. and it should cost you less.
