hey all, just wondering what engine mods you would recommend for my civic VTi. im installing a pod, cold air induction and an exhaust but what else will increase my power remembering the engine is VTEC.

First, unless u attempt the induction properly - there is no point with a pod filter and cold air intake- it has to be sealed off totally from the hot and sweaty engine bay 8)

Just get a good 2 inch mandrel bent cat back system with cannon style muffler - adn maybe even 4-2-1 decent exctractors for a nice mid-top range increase.

IF u want to go alittle bit further...and u r planning for more mods - get a system like this -

An underaxle 2.25 inch with hi-flow cat , 4-1 headers will increase ur top end quite abit - but will decrease bottom end torque.

Looks good but ! 8)

Other then the bolton's ur planning nothing is really worth doing unless u go for a different cam, headwork (port and polish) and custom/aftermarket intake manifold. But beware, these mods will get u minimum gains on ur SOHC'er and probably not work the money. My personal opnion is save ur cash and bolt up a turbo/b18c swap.

Are you looking at cheap mod's or expensive mod's?

Cheap options include:

Adjustable cam gear (expensive part is getting the dyno tune)
Fuel regulator (won't feel much of a difference, but when you take it out after a while, you'll notice what a difference it does)
Vtec controller (not much of a gain if at all)
Trying to make you car lighter (Non engine related, but shouldn't be neglected - stripping out you interior, cf hood, take out your aircon etc...)

Expensive options:
High comp pistons
cam's
head port and polish
full programmable ecu
lighten flywheel

there are lots of things to do, but in terms of N/A cars, gains are small and expensive. As mentioned above, most often thing neglected is making your car lighter.

What about making the driver lighter too? jk :P

Best bang for buck modification is to sell it and buy a B16 or B18 powered car. :)

If it saves you a couple of tenth's why not? :wink:

how would you be able to tell if the engine is a B16 or B18???

The easiest way to check is by looking at the engine code. B16 denotes the 1.6L VTEC engine whereas B18 denotes the 1.8L VTEC. Simply really. 8)

........or B18B which is 1.8 NON-VTEC :)

ek hatch vti-r is nice & lighter :)
coupe vti-r or si, heavy than hatch but it's popular in u.s. :wink:

for me, ill choose the hatch...well thats for my like anyway.

Differences come down to weight and styling - I'd take the Coupe on looks :)

Coupe = looks
Hatch = Sound & Performance!!!

I have 94 VTi with 180,000km

N1 chipped ECU, axle-back muffler, K&N filter on STD intake tube, polished TB.

STANDARD / ORIGINAL plugs, leads, exhaust, clutch etc.

108.2 PS at wheels on hub-dyno, 15.61" 1/4 mile.

is practical to drive and i have spent hardly any $$ as am waiting for swap.

But IMO get DOHC VTEC and dont waste any $$ on the SOHC.
